After downloading and having a play, it would be greatly appreciated if you thumbs'd up the tags, or even added your own! Its what the system is there for! Hey, first reach map here, been in progress for about 8 days. It was finished within the first 4, but I kept playing custom games, realising very small flaws, e.g. A slight nudge of a rock... All to make sure it plays to the best of its ability But now, after my 20th edit or something like that, I think i've achieved a map i'm proud of, I present to you; Caveside. The Map. The map itself is situated in the small cave area on forge world. To start with, I built a rock shelf, put flat ground at the back with some aesthetic barrier at the back, and put rocks at the bottom, separated by Colosseum walls, just to make sure it fit into the map from a distance. (I was that particular about it, I had to change the tidal barrier about 5 times). From there, I started putting the map structure in, piece by piece. I don't like using the pre-built structures, so the one I did put in, I edited a bit, just putting a window here and there. SO, production diary aside, i'll just give you a bit of a briefing. There's a few DMRs, a sniper, a ||Noob Tube // Pro Pipe // Grenade Launcher, whatever you wanna call it||, a shotgun, and a plasma launcher. They are all fairly balanced, we've done lots of testing, and there was no complaining from anyone, not even my little brother (which is VERY rare). Alright, so, the main testing game had about 10 or 11 people on it, it. Was. Hectic. Too much going on, the best game we had was a 6 player one, nice, balanced, fun. Just letting you all know. OH YEAH, 2-5 Player is also good The map supports FREE FOR ALL gametypes, no teams, sorry, it was incompatible. The games it does work with are as follows: Slayer, Oddball, Crazy King, Juggernaut and Headhunter. And they all work well BUT, description aside (only the good people on here will read it all, or at least some of it) here are the pictures! Overview Alpha Overview Beta Back Wall Below Bridge Above Bridge Grav Lifts - This took ages getting right, they get you to the top, and you don't bang your head on the cave roof ^^ Hooked-on Bridge Behind the Tower, to the left of the map And last but not least, a video, just showing some gameplay and a fly-through // not in that order ... Dum de dum... UPLOAD FASTER D: ... Nearly there... /Adding comments for no good reason aaannd... THERE! Here ya go (Quality got raped, i can't afford Bungie Pro for the rendering) YouTube - Caveside - A Halo Reach forge map.wmv Also, the music makes it sound epic... you have to judge whether it is or not for yourself One last point to make: All kill boundaries will kill you. All soft kill boundaries will kill you within 10 seconds. Going outside of the safe boundaries will kill you within 10 seconds. That general knowledge. All of those are set up on my map to ensure nobody escapes... Alive... MWUAHAHAHAHAH ENJOY! Credits: Shout out to the testers, I lav you. Dude, you made the video look a bit rubbish. Just sayin' This map is really good, i should know. It got REALLY hectic with 10 players, but i was one of the 6 on a previous match, it played perfectly. Since then he did about 3 readjustments of stuff, so i know its gotta play pretty well. Our group will probably be playing this for ages yet, its really fun
This is one of the few maps, out of tons that I've downloaded, that I actually intend to play with some friends. The layout is clean, simple, and sure to encourage hostilities. The lighting really sells the space as an environment, rather than just a bunch of prefabs shoved into each other. I'm not sure how it plays yet, but I'll post again once I've tried it with other people.
Looks sweet man. Good work with your rock ledge area. I love having so many rocks, opens up the possibility of "custom forge areas"
Very nice. It looks like it could be something right out of campaign. The whole map is very pleasing to the eye. I really like the area under the bridge.
Thanks for the comments, just had an idea; Tomorrow, (in about 20-24 hours from now) from 7-11 GMT, people can join my lobby and you can have a play around on the map if you'd like, you know, before downloading. It might help you decide if its good or not, and hey, it'd be a bit of fun on a friday night
Beyond the fact that this map is fantastic for smaller FFA Slayer, you've actually used the available lighting, audio, and texture to your advantage. If I see a large straightaway with human crates, or I hear a waterfall, I know immediately upon spawning where I am. That's something that a lot of people seem to have trouble doing since repeating forge objects make everything feel pretty homogeneous on some other maps. That's probably my favorite part of Caveside: it's an original design but it's incredibly easy to understand on just one play through. Good job. My only possibly complaint would be that it doesn't support team games, but I'm fine with using it as a 2-6 FFA.
Decent map, but it looks very similar to Ore (http://www.forgehub.com/forum/reach-competitive-maps/106298-ore.html#post1257890) and yet it's not forged as well (not that it's completely sloppy; it's clear you spent a lot of time on it). Still, I think this is worth keeping for a lot of casual gamers. It's definitely different from Ore when it comes to game play and layout. Overall, I like the map very much, but not the bridge. You may consider changing that. If you can make a version 2 that's a little tighter, I would give you a higher review, but I'm saying 8/10 right now. Good work.
This grinds my gears. I saw ore, I saw where it was located, I saw its thumbnail looked a little bit like mine at a first glance. But the difference is, my map was uploaded first, and on my file share first. So don't go slinging accusations. Also, while I accept that you might find it sloppy, it seems like you haven't played on it. Not one area is bumpy/rough to walk on, or doesn't play well. Rocks are supposed to look sloppy, its what happens in the natural environment right? Glad i got that off my chest Which bridge do you mean? There are several, all of the bridges work well, and have a fair bit of action based around them. If there could be a heatmap for caveside, it would be really hot near each of the hill locations. p.s. Ore is a nice map. I have commented on it
I noticed your satellite dish/base background on the island in one of your screenshots....I know it may be a little bit small for this, but why not give an invasion style to it which would incorporate that said island base? maybe something like send radio signal for falcons(first phase), drive falcons to the currently playable map while being attacked by banshees (second phase), the retrieve a core from the current playable area and bring it back to the satellite dish(third phase)? Just a thought.
this map looks sick but im a little bummed about no team games. id download, but im not really into any of the gametypes it supports. I dont like FFA, so... It looks asymmetric, no one flag, one bomb or something? oh wait.. maybe its because its a very small map... oh well. The map does look good, ill give you that. Good work : )
I feel like I have to come to your defense here- this map is FAR better than Ore in my opinion. Ore is a solid, yet simple map. Ore is basically a flat map with some objects to break up the lines of sight, and a couple of elevated pathways. I just don't see where Ore's forging demanded much technical forging skill. It did take some creativity with the crane idea though. I would give Ore a solid 7/10. This map utilizes objects in ways they were not meant to be used, where Ore does not. I saw one piece on this map and had to think for a second to figure out what it was without checking because only a small part of it was used to create a new shape to fill a smaller space than the object was intended for. It also looked so good I stopped and thought about it a second. The objects are just placed very well on this map. There are also many more asthetic elements in this map than Ore. I just mentioned one, and there's also a sloping pathway made from curved walls, and some other things too. There is even stuff off in the distance on the island. (Although that confused me at first, until I realized it was decoration, and then I was sad lol). I would give this map a 7.5/10 compared to Ore's 7/10. But like I said, I think Ore would play fine, and it has asthetic flare to it so it isn't visually dull. I do think Ore's flatness and simplicity however makes it not as good to me personally when compared to Caveside. I didn't want to get into a comparison between these maps, but I felt like I should share my opinion because I feel like this map has better asthetics and a better layout than Ore has (again not saying Ore is bad; its not).
