Whenever I go on Forgeworld I find that there is a lack of places to Forge. I know I can just make something in the sky but then it's boring and gray. I like to forge where some of the map is structures, but some of the map is natural and open. The only decent places to forge in which you can do that is the Island, Pocket, Montana and Alaska, and Hemorrhage, but all of those have had all the creativity sucked out of them.

Anyone else think the same thing?

    Nope.
A map is not defined by where it is built, but how well it plays.

    Well, not really.

You should try the underhang by the waterfall, the water by the waterfall, the underwater zones outside of the map, the long shore, the many steep cliffs and any other zone Forgeworld gives you.

Also, I really don't think that any part of Forgeworld has lost its creativity. They are all blank canvases with different shapes, and it's the forgers job to inject his creativity to the map, not the other way around. If someone doesn't have the creativity necessary to make an original creation on any of these blank canvases, then that's really not the map's fault.

Think of it this way. A blank piece of paper is a canvas on which an artist makes his creations. People have been using this very same canvas for years, and it still has its original creations time and again. If someone lacks the desire to paint, or has run out of things to paint, then it is not the papers fault, because the paper never had any creativity in it to begin with.

  4. True words of a wise man. But on topic, I find that Forge World has some unique places to Forge, but some places lack the aesthetic "feel," making the map look a little dull. But as pinohkio said, maps generally don't depend on where it's build, but how well the gameplay is. You can have a cool looking map, but horrible gameplay, making it unenjoyable.

Have you tried the lagoon or the rock? Or maybe forging in a map outside of forgeworld? Tempest, Anchor 9, Countdown, Powerhouse
Those maps have decent size which could be forged on.

if you make your map open enough, it could look ok in the sky, just build it near something

I know how you feel but at the same time disagree. At any time i don't know where to forge thats my calling to take a week or 2 off from forging and just download lots of maps. Then after i play the maps i begin to think of how i could forge in or near the area the maps i played where and that solves my problems. I suggest you try something similar because it might just work for you too.

I think that island is the stupidest thing. They have Paradiso on it and that's like pretty much the one type of map that you can make there, just a few bases thrown around this mountain.

It's such a big piece of forge world, and you can do things with it, but you really have to struggle to pry something out. They could've done something on that island besides giant mountain. It's just such an obvious lead down this one certain path.
forge world is great and I love it but if you're comparing it to a piece of paper than it's more like you're given a page with stuff already outlined in thick marker. An more empty type blank sheet is something I think people want, they'd like just the bare minimum creative influence from Bungie.

So yeah forge world is great and so much better than forge in 3, and I don't want to complain, but I don't think it hurts to recognize these restrictions that've been placed on forgeworld, it's better than struggling for hours to draw out some kind of total artistic freedom that isn't there.

I can agree here, but that's not the problem the OP is having, and honestly I think his problem is simply a lack of... well... creativity.

It really isn't about where you put your map that makes it creative or, albeit, original, but it's really more what you hope to achieve in the map itself that makes it creative/original.

I have yet to see very many maps in some very interesting places with some very great potential on Forge World.

Not to mention we JUST got Tempest, which despite the bashings it has been getting by the community offers just about everything Forge World has to offer except in a new play-space.

People's problem isn't the lack of what is provided to them, it's the lack of having a clear image of what you want to begin with.

People naturally gravitate to what's been successfully done before and as an avid reviewer of maps, I can say that this is what causes many maps to suffer when it comes down to creativity.

Instead of looking at the location of where you want your map, perhaps you should look at what kind of mood* you want your map to have and start from there. Should the location of the map fit the mood you're going for then by all means use it. It doesn't matter if it has been used before. As Hari said, we basically all have the same canvas to work with, but all that matters it what you paint on it.

All locations of Forge World and Tempest alike are prime 'canvas' for 'painting'. It's all a matter of having the right vision first. Be preemptive.

*If you don't know what I mean by 'mood' go look up the literary definition for it.
