    MOLD CAVERNS

    Beta Version Preview!

    Weapons List:

    DMR x4
    Grenade Launcher x2
    Gravity Hammer x1
    Fuel Rod Cannon x1

Mold Caverns is a small, but surprisingly roomy cave map great for 2v2's, 3v3's, and hopefully soon Infection as well once the final version is completed. The map's layout is somewhat similar to Halo 3's Orbital. I thought that Orbital had a good layout shape for an indoor, tunnel type of map, and so I figured it would translate well into a cave map. So I based my layout on Orbital, and it turned out quite nicely I think.

There is even an ambush point in the map where you can drop down from the higher pathway into the lower pathway to ambush other players!

    They never see it coming!

For some reason, people just don't realize there's a path above them with a hole allowing those higher up players to drop down on them at any second. I think this has to due with the fact that the ambush point is near a choke point where lots of fighting happens on the map, because that forces players to concentrate on fighting players in their own pathway, and forget about the pathway going over them.

I have 4 major asthetic elements in this map, 5 if you count the molded appearance of the entire map itself. There are magic mushrooms in one part of the map, ok well they're not necessarily any certain thing, but I thought they looked pretty cool, and they helped to show people the way through the only darker, dim part of the map. The glowing blue "mushrooms" help you to instantly see where the walls are exactly, but you could see it without them anyway. Its mainly something that will help you the first couple of times you play the map.

The red base also has a molded floor, and the ambush point has mold growing around it as well. And then there is a stalactite and a stalagmite where the Gravity Hammer spawns. The Fuel Rod Cannon spawns at the ambush point. DMRs and Grenade Launchers spawn in the base areas where teams spawn at.

    Here are some pictures!

The Sword here is now a Gravity Hammer.

A Spartan drawing his Sword to ambush a player below. I think the player is in a dire situation between the green plasma flying at him, and the Spartan about to leap down on him and stab him in his back!

    Mushrooms! Or something!

Ambush! Oh wait, nevermind, the guy died already lol...

Let me know about what you think of Mold Caverns!

I have already playtested this a lot with mostly 2v2s and 3v3s, and have changed the weapons quite a lot already, as well as some other significant changes.

Does the map feel cramped? Is it bright enough? Would Plasma Pistols be good on this map, and if so where do you think I should place them? Any serious mistakes in the map that makes you want to rage quit lol?

When it's in Beta you should probably post it on the testers guild page and they'll play a few matches on it and give you intelligent feedback. The map looks pretty good. I like how it's completely constructed from natural looking pieces. I'm worried that players won't be able to distinguish separate parts parts of the map and map orientation is very important. I'm not going to download this but I may download the final version ^^

I'm going to submit it for testing in probably a week or two, my live is expired at the moment as of a few days ago. So once I renew it I will submit it for testing.

I just posted my beta version here so that rather than just looking at pictures or a video, people can actually download the map, look at it, or even play on it themselves for a preview of it. I think thats a much better preview lol.

I know what you're saying about distinguishing where you're at on the map, but its small, and a simple layout, so I haven't noticed that being a problem yet. The areas all look very different too, despite all being rock. But that is something I will certainly keep in mind and think about while working on improving this map.

    Thanks for the input!

Although I can't read anything due to the black font, this map looks pretty interesting. I enjoy maps that are made out of rocks only. However, releasing a downloadable version of your map as a preview is actually considered releasing your map. The whole point of a preview is show the community pictures of your map in the Halo Reach Forge Discussion. if they can actually if your posted it here and they can actually download it then you basically just released your map. Also, the TG doesn't test maps that have already been posted so maybe ask a Mod to delete this thread or something.

Sorry about the font, I will switch it to white. I could read it on my computer, but even on mine it does look bad against this dark background.

I put my preview here because I figured if I put it in Forge Discussion, but had a download link, mods would come along and say I should have put it in a maps section since its a map ready to be downloaded. And I have seen almost as many previews here as in the discussion section anyway, so that isn't very clear.

I would love for a moderator to move this thread to Forge Discussion however, if moderators here feel this belongs in Forge Discussion. I have seen map previews here before, as well as in Forge Discussion, and figured since I had a downloadable version of my map in progress that I should put this thread here.

But if I put it in the wrong section, it was just a mistake, sorry.

    Edit:

One last thing, I have seen people release beta versions of their maps before, and then release the map later after improving it some. At no time did anyone tell them that was doing something wrong, or that them releasing a beta version was "releasing" their map already. In fact, once the final versions came out, people commented on how much they liked the maps, and that they liked some of the changes made to the maps that improved them. People also re-release their maps as Map V2, Map V3, Map V4, and so on all the time, and no one says they already released it to them. At least I have never seen anyone told that. I mean if they make Map Beta, Map, Map V2, and Map V3, they're all different maps assuming they have some significant changes to improve gameplay.
