Hello Forgehub community, As will soon become painfully apparant, I am new here. I have been an avid forger since the days of halo 3, but I never really got my maps out there. Having already perused the current quality of maps available here it already appears that I am out of my depth, regardless, I thought I'd submit a map and see what you all made of it. Conquest is probably the best map I am capable of. It is an asymmetrical map best suited to slayer and team slayers gametypes. The focal point of the map is the "Glass tower", a large structure with 3 pathways to enter, which also houses the energy sword. The tower can be climbed, and houses a mounted machine-gun and a focus rifle. To the left of the tower is the "Glass tunnel", connecting the red base with the "Glass tower" and housing the rocket launcher. To the right is another pathway which is designed for DMR warfare. and is also a pathway to the structure with glass windows. This is a good sniper location, whilst being exposed enough to prevent exploitation. Anyway, that's it. Feel free to download it and let me know what you think. Nice aesthetics on the map...but the pathways seem to have little cover and I fear there are few pathways between places becasue the way you have the map set up...also the map seem like it has too many powerweapons on it from your description...
thanks for the quick reply. The map tends to have an open feel about it, and doesnt really have distinct pathways, which i suppose could affect the flow
Your pics don't reveal too much of the maps layout, and unfortunately I don't think you can do a proper birds-eye shot as this looks to be in the coliseum. I do however like the build of the red base, and the aesthetics of the blue side look interesting. I'll be downloading this for sure.
First of all, welcome to Forgehub Dark Maltos! You've got an interesting map here, but it needs some serious changes (in my opinion). Some of the things I noticed were..... Odd spawns, when I spawned I spawned near the rockets, staring two blue initial spawns in the face. Although spawning so close to such a powerful weapon is an interesting concept, the fact that both sides only had one escape route meant that once you spawned here, it was kill or be killed. This can be incredibly frustrating. The idea of seperating the teams spawn into three parts was interesting, but in a game with four people spawns could become randomized, or an entire team could spawn in the rocket area, due to the proximity of nearby spawns. Anime Halo is correct, you have far too many power weapons for a competitive map. Countdown is a 6v6 compatible map and has only 2 power weapons, 3 including the Concussion Rifles. Your map has 7 power weapons (that I could find), not including the Concussion Rifles. Also, all the weapons on map are set to spawn every 30 seconds, I recommend changing these values to a higher time, to avoid Power Weapon suffocation on the map. I also made this mistake on a previous map of mine, the Reach Memorial museum. The map flow is a little broken, especially on the ground in the center, I was very confused as where to go and would be easily picked off while wandering. I recommend creating a pathway or some other indicator as to where points of interest are, as well as some landmarks. One way of doing this would be to color in the glass tunnels. The Sniper spawns were unfair, Red Sniper has a lot of cover and is on even ground with Blue Shotgun. But Blue Sniper is lower on ground than Red shotgun, prime for Grenade spam. There are great aesthetics on map, but there are some improvements to be made. The Sword can actually be placed upright without using the "Fixed" option, try using rotation snap. There was some Z fighting near Blue Shotgun, it is possible that your version of the map is clean, but when I downloaded it some pieces moved very slightly, still look it up and check it out. Just as a personal preference, I prefer to build outside the coliseum. Finally, the root of all this maps problems is a lack of testing, which is apparent from your lack of action shots. Try the testers guild or SargentSarcasm's play-testing sessions. If this fails, try and gather people on site, my GT is the same as my Username. (Actually, not even I have tested this, you'll just have to take my word on the changes ) Negative aside, you have great potential and it would be a shame not to be another map from you. -WFlag
Thank you Thank you for the detailed response I thought the "Death run" spawn might make the game interesting, but i can see what you mean. I know I need to work on the spawning in this map. As far as the weapons are concerned, i'll heed your advice and cut out a sniper or 2 Thanks for the welcome, I'll be sure to keep posting here
