Note: This is not a brag thread. If you say it is, I will smite you. -- I've been trying to figure this out but I haven't got any real explanation. The last map I made is a fine little map - smallish, symmetrical, some aesthetic appeal. But I don't think it's mind-blowing or anything. When I posted it in Competitive Maps it got some downloads - 200 or so. I thought that was pretty solid. I also posted it on the old MLG forum (which is now gone) and got a few more downloads, yay. I thought it might settle in at 300 and that would be it. But somehow it has gone APESHIT over the weekend. I checked my fileshare on Saturday and noticed it was over 1600. Then I checked it this morning and it's now over 3600. Thing is, I have no idea why! The MLG thread is gone along with that entire forum. The Competitive Maps thread hasn't been bumped or looked at in days. Nobody posted about it on the Bungie forums that I can find. The YouTube video has less than 200 views. Other maps I've made recently have around 100 DLs or less. What the heck..? How did it happen... and how can I make it happen again??
The map most likely found its way into the most downloaded or most recommended list in the file share browser. A friend of mine made a Star wars map it got onto that list really quickly. Then I think it got around 40k downloads before it was bumped off by newer stuff. Pro tips for instant downloads: Step 1. Name your map "Star Wars" or "XXX 18+ Nude Girl" Step 2. Enjoy the downloads.
Hell, you're exactly right. I hardly ever look at that thing (in fact I forgot how to pull it up - after I read your post it took me a few minutes to remember). But there it is, second on the list actually. I wonder how that even happened? Thanks for the tips, I will definitely be using them. I actually downloaded your map yesterday through the most recommended list! I often download these maps just to see what they're like and I downloaded the map having already a copy on my file share, it took me a few moments to realize what happened. Anyway congratulations and I'm already looking forward to your next map.
