So as I recall, playing Halo 3 infection, the placement of movable objects (such as barrels and dumpsters) would allow defenders to create makeshift barricades in doorways and such to prevent zombies from eating their brains as quickly.

My problem, however, is that when doing this, the objects would sometimes just despawn, disappearify into the cold nothingness of respawning.

Oh, and a few people would get eaten too.

So my question is, do objects still despawn in Halo: Reach? As in, do they despawn before they're supposed to RESPAWN?

    Like, picture this:

    1. I put down a crate.

    2. I set it's respawn time to 3 minutes.

    3. Now, if I spend 2 minutes and 59 seconds whacking the poor sunuvaFEMALEDOG across the map, will he:

    4. Decide it's pumpkin time at 3 minutes and appearify back where I set him to spawn? (GOOD)

    5. Or will he disappear before that 3 minute timestamp is reached? (BAD)

An answer to this would be amazing, namely for an idea I had for lightning round CTF that involved the building of bases around flags. Oh, and infection, of course.

I'm not sure the exact science of how it works but if a movable object gets moved from its original spawn point by anything punching explosions etc it will disappear eventually possible before the new one spawns.

In halo 3 a object took at least 30 seconds before it could despawn. Like I said i dunno 100% but to help, keeping it moving shooting it every now and then should help it despawning.

All objects require an idle time.

The idle time is which an item must remain untouched by any player contact (be it by explosion or physical contact) to which the item will then despawn. The duration in which the item hasn't been "available" for, will then cause the item to spawn in it's location once the respawn timer has been reached or exceed.

    For example,

A movable crate gets blown up, it's respawn timer is 30 seconds. After 15 seconds the crate despawns as it has become Idle. The crate remains despawned for a further 15 seconds until it is permitted to Respawn.

A Sniper Rifle is set to respawn at 120s. A player picks it up, and uses it's ammo after 48s. The player keeps hold of the weapon for 150s. The Sniper still hasn't respawned. The player trades the empty weapon for a current map weapon and the Sniper Rifle instantly respawns. (The idle time for weapons initiates when the ammo is used) but the weapon cannot despawn as it is still in player use. Thus the timer exceeds it's respawn rate by 78s and immediately respawns the weapon once the player switches it out. (This happens in matchmaking all the time; when you get players on Hemorrhage waiting for Sniper Ammo and they still have the Sniper in their hands it prevents it from respawning making them stand there idle and waiting for about 5 minutes before they give up and get killed ¬_¬...)

Ah, I think I see now. So, approximately half it's time until it despawns? (While idle). So what if I had a grav lift holding a crate in place against the wall? Would that still be idle? Or would it respawn and then be replaced against the wall? And, also, if I had a group of crates that only spawned at the beginning of the game, and set the min/max to be equal, and then MOVED those crates that don't respawn, would they then despawn after idle time and then spawn the crates that would otherwise spawn later? In other words, let's say I had a group of pallets (like H3), and I destroyed them with those settings, another group would spawn immedietly after, right? So if I just did the same with indestructable but movable objects like crates, would the spawning thingy still apply?
