I was thinking about places that would be really fun to play in, and a place I kept coming back to was a really big forest. I mean, it would be great to have a map that has no crazy forerunner styled objects. Just like, open fields next to forests, maybe a rock gorge with a waterfall. We could have a huge palette of natural objects, and it would be kick ass. I mean, making wood themed walls and all that, wooden bridges instead of large walkways. Maybe some older vehicles. It seems like a damn good idea to me.

It actually wouldn't be a bad idea, but the problem is that natural objects a very 'not strait'. They all have awkward angles and uneven surfaces which could prove to be hell when trying to build a map.

Well, maybe as far as rocks, tree's and stuff go. But wooden themed walls and stuff wouldn't be akwardly skewed or anything.

Or.. we could just have a larger "Natural" section in the pallet's we currently have.. or just a new forge map in general. If bungie gave us a much more flexible pallet, we'd be able to make a much wider scope of maps in general anyway and intergrate more than one idea possible.

Creating all natural maps have already been done, but having an entirely natural pallet would just make all natural maps boring..

Not neccessarily an all natural pallette, I just think that a more rural setting would be cool. We've all fought on forerunner structures, and in bases, and all that. And its fun and all. But it would be so much fun, I think, to go..."retro" so to speak, in a forging map.

Bungie makes Forging soooooooooo much better and easier (better as my opinion) and people can still find something to complain about. Plus its not like the game IS Forging. There's MM, the campaign, theater, firefight. They can't make everything perfect.

I completely agree with Stevo. Eventually, people would get started to get bored with the same wooden maps. They should just add moar objects and slightly increase the item count.

    just ranting

I think it would be a great idea. I feel like alot of time was spent developing Reach but not so much for matchmaking, hence the comeback of older maps. Though I have to give the creator of forge world props because it is simply the future of halo and will revolutionize how gaming is done in the future to come.

side note: think about the other first person shooters out there. COD for example. Has alot of options for customizing the perfect soldier, but you still run around the same damn maps and get picked off by little baby campers. honestly i have not even found a gametype other then team deathmatch thats worth my time. now it feels like every time i buy a new title, im actually buying a expensive map pack. eh i do like the zombie thing, kinda cool

But forgeworld allows endless map ideas and gametypes that always keep it interesting. and the best part about it is that its only in the developing stages. There are more map ideas and tools to come. with those even greater maps will be built.

sorry about my rants but i think some more natural looking environments would really make this game so much greater. instead of fighting in some random bases, how about some gloomy caves? or a marsh/swamp? (if only master chief could learn how to swim) a forest would be awesome if we could somehow loose the whole red/blue approach. or if we have to fight in bases, how about adding some history and create some ruins?? they can put a story to go with it, like where some epic battle occured long ago. Or forge could come out with something to add texture or age or color to the forge tools we have. haha i can go on. it will happen someday. Im sure 343 will see how important forge is gonna be and take it beyond what we imagined. Im just optomistic.

Forging in a big forest would be hell for most, but it would prove fantastic for some one sided objective game modes or a game of infection.

As for the open fields, forging on a completely flat area provides little to no natural aesthetic isnt great, because the maps would be completely made out of whatever forge objects you had, and it wouldnt look good. Apart from that, I can see nothing wrong with it.

As for the natural palette idea, it would solve the above stated problem and would be fantastic.
