Update: In an effort to remove the framerate drop that I saw while playing 4v4 I have removed some pieces. Most notably the lights and mongoose. Hopefully this will help keep it nice and smooth. My first map built on Tempest. I'm quite satisfied with it actually. Once again, I've used the grids as part of the structure and I think it turned out well that way. This map is built among the trees and along the water buy the power source for tempest's forerunner structure-beam-thing-a-ma-jig. It's an Asymmetrical map that I think is fair for both teams. It should play well on capture modes but I haven;t tried it yet. As usual, I like my maps best on Slayer / team slayer... I'm not much of a fan of objective games. Notable weapons and vehicles: 2 Sniper rifles, one near each base 1 Rocket launcher, in a central location 1 Gravity Hammer, in a central location 1 Concussion Rifle, in a central location I was intending to have pathways in and around the trees in the area but they ended up inside of what I was building. I added some rocks to the crisp, clean structures and found it looked very much like some ruins with plants growing out of them. This looked pretty cool and fit with the rest of Tempest's style so I just rolled with it. Pictures: The red base. The Blue base. Looking towards the center from just in front of the red base on ground level. Looking down on the top-center of the map with the blue base in the background. Looking toward the center from the red side of the map. (The shot is taken from pretty far away from the red base though. Rocks and trees in all their glory. Those rocks have a path that runs through them with the gravity hammer inside. I may remove the Mongoose for performance reasons. I noticed framerate problems when driving them while they're on fire. This gets worse if they're on fire and you drive through the water, causing slashes. The framerate drop isn't game breaking but it was noticeable and I want a very smooth map or none at all. Let me know how capture modes work on this map if you play it at all. Slayer and most modes should be fine, but I'm no expert at CTF or Assault modes and any tips are welcome.
I got a chance to play on this last night and it was pretty fun. The action was fast and constant. There was plenty of ways to get around and the man cannons added an extra element of surprise to the map. The spawns seem good and the weapons seemed balanced as well. The top part of the map has a simple, yet effective layout, and the bottom part takes advantage of the provided terrain on tempest in a good way. I completely forgot where i was on Tempest when i was playing this map, so i think you did a good job of making this map feel unique while using the provided terrain. Great map!! I look forward to trying out your other maps soon.
