For me, SketchUp makes it that much easier. All you have to do is keep track of what items you are using, and make sure you don't go over the budget/item limits, then when you begin making your map, you can simply look back at the SketchUp and say "Okay, piece A goes here, piece B goes here, on a 45 degree angle", etc. I'm still waiting for a post-release SketchUp set, I think I'm going insane trying to design maps in 2D.
This is so stupid... if you are gonna do an "sketchup" preview, why don't you better do some quick doodles in a piece of paper? sketchup will take you a loooot of time, moreover, it does not tell you your budget, and you do not know how laggy a place is. Finally, sketchup does not features the landmasses, the different ground levels. I think is better either have an idea on your mind before hand and creating on the go, or doing some quick doodles with some concepts...
I find that while it's not easier per say to create a sketchup of a map, it's definitely better, because you can model in 3D. You can know what it looks like to scale of a Spartan. You can look at the lines of sight, all of the pathways, without having to imagine it from a 2D drawing. It's also rather simple to create a spreadsheet that keeps track of all your budget.
Does anyone have any plans to rescale and rename the peices which are not to scale now that Reach has been released?
I asked about this a while back Rich. I guess Mick has just been busy. It's understandable. They are accurate enough to make do for now.
Well for one thing I haven't felt the need to use them since Reach forge is much simpler to work in. Sketchup still has advantages but for now I haven't felt the pressure. The biggest thing holding me back is I tried getting an HD rip of a video I shot where I looked at all the objects from all the angles. Once I get that video it would be a lot easier for me to work on the objects without having to use my xbox. If someone wants to be so kind as to render it for me that would be super. I have a SD rip but it's not high enough detail to get all the specifics I want done. Bungie.net : Halo Reach : File Details I'd also like to try and commission people to sketchup sections of FW and we could combine them for even more detailed designs, though who knows if this will actually come to light.
Hey, newbie here. I've been using SketchUp for a while now (As well as the awesome Advanced Objects you've made). I just got back into it (I was consumed by the REACH forge), but I've been using SketchUp more and more, and I was wondering, if maybe other people could do weapons, miscellaneous objects, etc. I've already done a Fusion Coil. And as far as what you said about "Commissioning people to sketchup sections of FW", I'd be more than happy to, I'll probably start on the Colosseum in a few moments. Thanks again for the awesome stuff! -Dr. McMeaty-
Just Dl'd. This will help tremendously with my town!!!!!!!!!! However, i notice there aren't any of the Rocks/Boulders, but oh well. This helps a lot seeing as i don't have a box atm, but at least i'll have a project to start thanks a bundle
I think Mick needs someone to render a video in HD for him before he continues. Its an in depth video where he looks at each object from multiple sides. I was going to do it but its quite a lot of render minutes which I cant afford right now.
Uploading Map Creations to Xbox Does anyone know how to upload a new map created in google sketchup so it can be opened with the Xbox?
