    Poseidon's Lair
    Created by Mander

    Recommended Players: 1
    Required Gametype: The First Piece

Salutems my mere mortals, it is your self-professed demigod Buddha Craniatus. I've paraglided down from Mt. Olympus to present the latest Forge Hub featured map (Yes, we gods and demigods have nothing better to do; what with the economy in Greece the way it is right now!). So prepare, peons, to purposefully perpetuate perceptive perspicacity, on a practically precognitive plane, in Posedion's Lair!

Mander's first forge foray in Reach is a water-themed puzzle map - a series of challenges meant to test your cunning and skill using Halo's elaborate mechanics. Many puzzle maps from Halo 3 relied on glitches and tricks in the Halo game engine to supply challenge ideas; this sometimes alienated the casual puzzle player, who would not always be clued in on such complexities within the game. Poseidon's Lair, however, distances itself from that style of puzzle, and instead focuses on challenges that rely on logic and problem solving. Thankfully this means you won't have to worry about whether some strange obscure trick or glitch has been discovered to solve a puzzle. This doesn't mean that progress will be easy though! What it does mean is that if ever there was a time to get into puzzle maps, and see what all the fuss is about, then this is your chance.

Poseidon's Lair is brimming with puzzles, over 20 in fact, so you'll be glad to know there's a checkpoint system in place to ensure that any mishaps or deaths won't result in having to start all over again! Mander devised a whole new mechanic for creating checkpoints in this puzzle map, called "Prioritised Spawning". Each time a plasma battery is destroyed, a new checkpoint is unlocked - Nifty eh? What's also handy is that most of the challenges are pretty easy to do once you've worked them out; so if you find yourself having to leave the game and start it up again later then it won't take you long to get back to where you left off.

To conclude, you will want to summon the speed of Hermes, muster the might of Zeus, conjure the craftiness of Hades, and invoke the intelligence of Athena if you wish to find your way to the end of Poseidon's Lair! Oh, and don't forget to use your most important muscle ... no not that one ... your brain, silly!

A very good puzzle map, nice and challenging. Like Bl0odshadow, I also love the water theme, it fits perfectly with this map. I haven't completely beaten it yet so I can't give a full review lol, but holy ****, we've been featuring maps really fast lately, haven't we? Gratz Mander, another well-deserved feature.

Oh, and amazing video as well. I love how whenever the bell rings the scene changes. Ecstasy of Gold ftw!

so there's only been 1 actual competitive map to win featured and it has awful map lag. awesome decision making, i mean i would rather do puzzles than play halo the way it was supposed to be played. seriously no sarcasm here =/

Perhaps you would care to actually suggest a map rather than expecting the Staff to magic one up out of thin air, hmm? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but both Impound and Vanilla both appear to be competitive maps to me, so you might also want to consider double checking your basic counting skills before voicing such criticisms.

Win. That's why I love you Pegasi, no ****.

I think I'll try and do this when I wait for my friends to play. It looks amazing from the video.

Okay so I saw this when mander first posted it, and from the video and pictures it looks awsome, but I have a little problem. I can't go to bungie.net at all without an error message popping up, so I therefore can't download any maps from bungie.net. I tried downloading this from the file browser, and I got the map, but I couldn't find the gametype and I searched for mander a1 as the author and the map is all that came up. I was wondering if someone could upload it the file browser so that i can dl it, or did I jut search too early?

Wow, I absolutly love the vidoe. I can honesly say that this is the first puzzle map, in Reach, I've been intrigued by. This is more of a Puzzle/Adventure map, A bit like the Crypt of Doom from halo 3 but in a different way, and I think that kill ball chase look awesome (yet terrifying to do). This map definatly deserved the feature and I'm gald that all the catagories are getting so feature love, including mini games now!

Also, it seems fitting that Buddhacrane wrote the feature page, with a his puzzle making expeirence and all. Being praised for a puzzle map by him seems to be a honor within itself. (still can't figure out all of Paratroxity)

Wow, thanks for the feature guys! This is very unexpected, as well as very awesome. I can't believe how well this map is doing; I'd have thought it'd instead cause people to hack my account to prevent me from posting my frustrating maps here. And thanks for the write up Buddha! Nice use of allitertion, and perhaps a thesaurus as well. I, for one, have no idea what perspicacity means.

Anyways, thanks again FH, and I can only hope that it won't frustrate the living hell out of you, at least not so much that it'll cause you to come up to Canada and beat my ass...

my bad 2, out of what 7 or 8? That really made my point that much worse didnt it. This is why Atom is the only map that was picked by users (and before you say cliffhanger it was made by a bungie employee and it sucks too.), because im sure if they looked on here they'd dismiss it because the featured maps suck. It makes even less sense to have this as featured during the forgetacular contest when you should be promoting the best contest entries.
Oh and telling me to recommend one for feature is a silly thing to say considering plenty of maps that are better than these are nominated and probably dont even get looked at.

Is it that time of the month for you? Seriously man, no need to troll like that here. Forgehub is their own site, why should they coordinate what they do with Bungie? Why should great maps like this not be featured just so that Forgehub can help Bungie choose maps for their contes? You really think they base their opinions by coming here and looking at Forgehub features? And BTW I'm pretty sure Forgehub does take a look at every nomination. If you paid attention you'd notice that pretty much all featured maps were recommended at some point.

Anyways, enough about that, nice map Mander. I've played and got a decent way into it, which is surprising as I'm pretty awful at puzles. I watched your walkthrough video (I personally like to watch walkthroughs then play the map, as I just feel stupid when trying it on my own) and I was amazed. Extremely clever map, just thought I'd let you know ;)

If you have problems with the map, other than personal ones, you can post here. If you have praise you can also post here.

However, if out of ignorance you wish to complain about the staffs decisions on featured maps, you can do so in this thread. Otherwise, consequences will follow.

Aside from the map, which I was about halfway through when my xbox died, I love how their is a single tree in the first picture, which is the banner.

I'VE GOT MY EYE ON YOU FH.

Forgehub attempts to keep a proper ratio to the featured maps to the actual maps released. This will no doubt settle into the same ratios as experienced in Halo 3. Simply put, there are uneven ratios right now because the Staff are attempting to feature the best from each category. In time there will be more competitive maps being featured.

Besides, the best of Halo isn't always standard competitive maps. There are puzzle maps like this, infection maps like Help's on the Way and L4D No Hope, race maps and more. Do you really expect only competitive maps are worthwhile or good?

I'm hopeless at puzzles so I'll likely never play this but that video alone is epic. Very well made and awesome music.

Maybe I just don't understand how these things work, but I can't make it past the first area. I grab the needle rifle and go underneath the rock and then I'm stuck in the next room. What do I do?

Time of the Month? Troll? No wonder maps like this get featured, we have a bunch of children in here. if you want to play puzzles or race or anything gay like that, go play mario party or buy a racing game. jesus, i mean this game is a shooter, not a stupid puzzle game. maybe the problem is the only forge community is filled with goons who suck at the real game so they'd rather **** around solving puzzles. the only person with a big boy response in this thread was noklu. And if i get penalized for voicing a very legitimate complaint then so be it.
