Crag Basin "Something something gorge something something remember something something battle." Crag Basin is a Rocket Race map based on getting back to RR basics. I've cut out around 35% of Hemorrhage, and used varying rock formations to cut down on lines of site and focus traffic into specific lanes. I used all rock pieces in the process. The layout of the destinations is pretty straight forward and where you'd expect them to be. For flavor, there's one destination on the ridge, and one in the cave (pretty large, and quickly accessed from either entrance). The map plays just fine with 6 teams just like matchmaking, but it probably plays a bit better with the traditional 4 teams like H3. Zero replies. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. I will admit, I'm starting to come around to Reach Rocket Race... despite the crappy physics.
I think this is the 3rd Rocket Race map is see on Forge Hub, along with my map: Space Rocket Race, and the other Shaman King Rocket Race map (not sure). It looks really nice, although you can add a lot to the envoirement without altering the track it'self. Again, let me take Space Rocket Race and Shaman King rocket race as an example: - A flying ship + a U.F.O - A big Shaman monkey thing made out of rocks. If you do something like this, you can make your map have a certain ''theme''. Put something in the air, or create a nice looking structure. I mean, you have a lot of credits left right? PS: I saw you saying: *second image and flythrough are from an unfinished version without aesthetic touches in the cave or the outer walls. general geometry is unchanged. I will check out what you've done to the aesthetics of the map. Maby update the pictures, if so?
The theme is crag basin. So....rocks. I don't need anything more than that. Stuff like UFOs in the sky might garner more DLs. But the map that plays the best will stay on HD's longer
initially, i have to agree with that guy that the map does seem pretty sparse, but, Lightsout has an extremely valid point that applies to all maps, not just this one. gameplay > aesthetics. especially with an RR map, where too many objects, and too much aesthetics could severely detract from gameplay. sure, he could go back in and phase a bunch of **** into the sides of the cliffs and whatnot, probably causing tons of lag and detracting from the playability of the map. but why do that, when it plays what its meant to play well? i didnt even know you were working on this, im exited to get some games in on it. send me a invite the next time you're running it. there should be a "Rocket Race" prefix.
Gameplay + Aesthetics > Gamplay > Aesthetics! Haha the terrain in the gulch is just a bit too hilly for my taste. I think you did good to wall of that side though. I don't think I like the idea of a hill in the caves though. Seems like it could get messy in there. I'll have to play it though. I love simple games that play well, but I think you could have improved both gameplay and looks with a few structures here and there. But what do I know!
Adding structures would do nothing for gameplay. the terrain itself does a more than sufficient job of manipulating LOS, and the rocks I've placed do their job just fine influencing paths and traffic. This isn't my first time, fellas She's tested and finished, and I have no plans to change her now. I've moved on to more ambitious projects.
