Im cancelling all my upcoming project even though all of them are ready for testing. It seems that I found forging boring. I can take my time, Its just that I have no creativity. No Ideas... Nothing. I can't focus. I don't understand why, but whats really been bugging me is the objects. Forunner Tech sucks. I've loved Halo 3's Forging because of how many levels you can forge on. But Halo:Reach only has one that you can mainly forge on. Which sucks because I really wanted to spawn walls in Sword Base or Countdown. Im finding it boring mainly because of these reasons and starting to give up hope for the upcoming future. I promised that I would make a better return to map building than what I managed in Halo 3 and I don't want my first reach map to suck. Which is nearly impossible. Is anyone finding it difficult to come up with a map in Reach. Maybe I should get off Fable. Creativity Level: Dead

Im still Keeping Halo:Reach RPG Though. Im just gonna need some time.

Just play and don't forge. Sooner or later, an idea will hit you, don't force it. And IMO forerunner is better than clay blocks.

I agree with the forerunner tech thing. It's a great resource, but when absolutely everything is made out of it, things blend in way too well. Even in maps where they use nature to counter it, the fact that the metal is the same tone just throws it off. It's possible to have perfect balance, but it takes a while.

It's not something that bothers me a lot, but it does get pretty frustrating when you want to have some contrast in your map. I would have liked there to be some more human/covenant/nature-looking objects as well like in Halo 3.

I liked the sand way better, it allowed for a more fluid contrast between objects (but im not too picky either way.) Forerunner stuff just sucks all around though imo, or at least how bungie did it. I would have loved H2 and H1 styled GOOD forerunner; simple and steel flowing well with giant impossible trees, not stupid realistic landscapes and impossibly complex proximity-lit objects that cause huge framerate issues.

    -_-

When I heard about Forgeworld, I though we could forge our own world. Example: Use sand, snow, trees and bushes. But sadly thats no possible. Forgeworld is little bit of a lie. I want an entire world not a blocked off map. I do play it, But I can't forge for **** right now.

    Time of forging today: 1:33:43

4 Maps were created but then deleted.

Well if you are out of the project I might keep it going assuming the people who are in it don't drop out

The problem with forerunner objects is people are human (obviously) and not forerunner. We put right angles everywhere and all the pieces are interlocked so we get z-fighting and block patterns in different directions. If you go all out for the forerunner look with angles and everything it looks great. Forerunner structures generally look especially clean without all the random protrusions and stuff people have to make for cover. I think this is one of the best uses of the forerunner look. I agree with yoyo because all the sand looks the same so you can't tell where all the blocks connect, and the blocks didn't have patterns that would look bad if you merged them together at an angle.

If you didn't delete the map, post a map adoption so hopefully someone can finish it off for you.

im not sure if i am misinterpreting this or not?

you spent one hour and 33 minutes forging, made 4 maps, and then gave up and deleted them all?

if this is true, you are doing it wrong. if you're making 4 maps within an hour and a half,
you are not contributing anywhere near the time or dedication required to making a decent map with forge.

people spend weeks, even months working on maps.
my suggestion to you is to take your time and really think about things.
try to come up with a basic plan before forging. etc.

It's cliche and all, but it really is true: work at having a positive attitude. Seriously dude, it helps so much in life in general. You just gotta keep your head up. It's natural to see the flaws in something, but the better man will think of how he can overcome them, not dwell on how much they suck. If you list out all of these negative things and say that you're just going to give up then you've already lost. Just leads to a big downward spiral. So if you really want to be a great forger, or anything for that matter, then keep moving forward. Keep going. And remember that everything is a process, so it takes time to accomplish stuff. You really can't force it, you have to put the work in. Take a few deep breaths. You can do it.

It would be better if you could change the "theme" of specific objects at your own discretion.

My problem with the objects on forge world are both the complexity of too many of the objects, and the fact that everything seems more specific than before as well as the fact that building blocks are used more than anything and you only get 100 :/
I keep encountering problems with all of the *x1 building blocks all looking different even though I have to use them back and forth to fit where I need them and honestly it looks like ****.

I made 4 maps in 1hr 33mins. It wasn't 4 maps all at once. I made 1 then deleted it. And repeat 4 times. Thats how I work. Its just the basic outline. If I like it, I keep working. If not I restart and work on another. Im gonna go back to Halo 3 and check on some old maps. Im still gonna agree that its really hard for rookies to come up with something new that no one has done. For Example: Race Maps. Most of the Race Maps in Halo 3 looked very much the same. Some guys created some new things such as jumps that make you do a back-flip. Even for me after 3 Years, Im still having difficulty working on Slayer Maps. Mainly because of the Forunner Blocks (again). Im gonna see what I can do. Mods Lock if you must.

It's pretty simple: Gather a few ideas you still have from Halo 3 and try to make that on a non-Forge World map. It is quite a challeng, but it may turn out good. Examples: Junkbot, Cityscape.

Make an Invasion map on Powerhouse! Spartans defend the Powerhouse and Elites try to blow it up! First phase: Territories. Second Phase: Assault. Third Phase: Assault.

Those standard Invasion Loadouts suck. Here are some better ones:

    FIRST PHASE

    Security(Spartan)
    AR
    Magnum
    Sprint
    2 X Frag

    Warrior(Elite)
    Plasma Rifle
    Plasma Pistol
    Evade
    2 X Plasma

    Spec Ops(Elite)
    Needler
    Hologram
    2 X Plasma

    SECOND PHASE

    Grenadier(Spartan)
    AR
    Magnum
    Armor Lock
    4 X Frag

    Recon(Spartan)
    DMR
    AR
    Sprint
    2 X Frag

    Guard(Spartan)
    AR
    Magnum
    Drop Shield
    0 X Frag

    Saboteur(Elite)
    Needler
    Plasma Pistol
    Armor Lock
    2 X Plasma

    Marksman(Elite)
    Needle Rifle
    Plasma Pistol
    Evade
    2 X Plasma

    Dark Asassin(Elite)
    Needler
    Plasma Pistol
    Active Camo
    2 X Plasma

    THIRD PHASE

All Spartan Loadouts stay the same.

    Ranger stays the same.
Royal Zealot gets renamed as Marksman.
Champion gets Hologram instead of Active Camo.
    Gladiator is renamed as Warrior.
Sentry gets sustituted by Spectre and gets a new arsenal:

    Needler
    Plasma Rifle
    Active Camo
    2 X Plasma

Why do people force themselves to forge when they don't have ideas or even any desire to do it? Stupidest thing I've ever heard of.

If you enjoy forging, but have no ideas, brainstorm first. Outside of forge. Where it doesn't take 1:33 to figure out that your idea sucks and you should brainstorm up another idea.

Well, halo 3 had no forge maps until DLC. Be patient- we'll get something better.

    Izano has the right idea.

You'll get your grubby little hands on Tempest soon, get bored of it then demand something better.

    Just like Foundry.

    Just Like Sandbox.

Just like the society of constant dissatisfaction...
    oh wait.
    That's everyone.

IMO it's just not worth making maps anymore. Everyone seems to have gone "pro" and maps have to be a certain way with slants, "correct" weapon placement, vehicle placement, etc. Creativity's gone partially cuz our "quality standard" doesn't approve of it. We're now fearful of lag, overpowered weapon placement, unfair maps..

I used to play cuz I thoroughly enjoyed trying out seemingly dumb maps... but THOSE are the creative ones. The ones that new players tend to make... where paths are open... i guess it just hold my attention a lot longer than today's balanced, bland maps where you can't get out of the map and where everything is exactly as it seems. Just boring imo.

and I guess it could be that i like more adventure type maps... i'm really not the competitive type

and halo reach is still a halo game. I mean, i personally have no motivation to forge partially cuz it all seems old.

.. although I do like playing minecraft ;)
