Well i never did play death island but i did save alot of pictures of the map so i went ahead and started a remake, well its not really a perfect remake cause the island is way different in geometry to the island from halo pc but i want to make a map similar that has that circular gameplay.

Well here is the pics of what iv done, i have some other ones like the albatross (halo 2/3 vehicular drop pod) and the cover that opened up to the inner workings of alpha halo. Anyway here is what i got.

Red tower, same style as the ones from Silent Cartographer the first part of the map.

Blue tower / starting spawn same as red side.

    Red walkway to central tower.

    Blue walkway to central tower.

Central tower and both walkways and both bases.

Close up of the central tower.

Well like i said i added the installation that houses the giant dish that opens up to a huge network of tunnels on alpha halo. I also added an Albatross and 2 vehicle doors that lead to an uderground tunnel (=p we will see how that pans out) also added is alot of covenant crates shields and barriers. I plan on adding a downed pelican for blue side but we will see what budget i have left.

I played the original a lot of times on Halo PC and i can tell you that your map doesn't look like it. In the original one you could walk on top of it. Use Rocks to make the top flat.

Yeah, it looks extremely loosely based off it, but doesn't compare much otherwise. Not to say it isn't a good map, and that anyone expects a complete replica, but it's missing a lot of elements from what I can see.
If you want I could probably throw together a fly-through video or even more pictures of Death Island if you don't have enough detail.

Ya i know the top part was the same as Silent Cartographer in which you could walk up and the giant manhole cover was there and the cave that ran through the middle. The cave im replacing with the Vehicle door and well i moved the Manhole to the front of the map on the ground, it is really gona be a Spiritual Successor. I also know the bases are way off haha the real ones had a platform with a portion beneath it if i have budge left i will scrap the ones i have and build those.

Oh and yes please at least alot more pics a video would be cool but if you have a capture card and could take some more detailed pics of the layout that would be nice.

Do you ever plan on branching off from remakes/re-imaginations, to make an original map?

First of all. No the map doesnt look a lot like Death Island, but it still looks good so far and I believe that if you do it right, you can capture a lot of the same gameplay elements from the original. Make sure there is enough space to drive everywhere. In Paradiso, one side of the sland has too many rocks and other obstacles to be fun to drive on.
The Halo series has tons of memorable maps and Reach has a perfect way to recreate them. There is nothing wrong with remaking maps from previous games. In fact, I really appreciate people doing it.

Well real reason for doing this is because i want to. If you check my halo 3 forge stuff you will see everymap was inventive and creative in its own right and never a reamake. I'm not sure to be insulted or just suprised i would be asked that, yes so far i have done hmm lets see Valhalla Coagulation Death Island and a High Ground rendition. Not released is GuarOut a combo of Guardian and lockout together (not at all a remake just a collaboration) Contagulaiton (another collaborative map) and 2 or 3 other maps that are genuine and need testing.

Also coming is an Invasion mappack using bits and pieces of SP levels from all halo games (except reach).

It doesn't look anything like Death Island. I played the PC version a lot; I would know.

There just isn't a good place to re-do it on Forge World, other than maybe on Montana or Alaska. Even then it would be hard, and probably not play like DI at all.

Okay its been updated a ton since i took those pics, i made blue and red base just like they layout of Death Island, the bottom of the bases are different but overall death island played in a circular manner with the ability to cut across via the top. I'm trying to capture the gameplay but to do that i would have to completely change the top of the island to a more flat area reachable via ramps etc. I honestly think that if i did that the map would look really ugly, so im going with the Silent Cartographer mixed with what i can see about Death Island.

Speaking of which does anyone know where i can get Halo PC the custom content maps still being made for it are amazing and i like getting ideas from other peoples work.

I mean no offense when I say this, but if one never played a particular map, then one can't possibly re-create it, regardless of what one has to work with (both from a map and building materials standpoint).

One cannot possibly understand/realize the flow of a map without having walked through it, if at the very least one time!

Your map looks promising on it's own merits, but I would definitely NOT call it Death Island nor try to insinuate that it's a remake of DI in any way. It just does not look like it......at all !

BTW -- DI is seriously my all time FAV map, ever! I WISH there was a way for this map to be released again for Reach.

Gamestop still sells it I believe. If not that, then try Amazon. It's only 10 or 15 dollars now. If you do end up buying it, halomaps.org is the best place to go for maps. It's been up pretty much since people have been making maps for Halo Custom Edition, and they have a lot of maps, it's a great resource. The only downside is people don't really play custom maps anymore from the last time I got on, so if you ever want to test out the gameplay with more than 2 people, it's probably not going to happen.
