Hey I was just thinking the forging 101 for halo 3 let new people to forge get to know what to start off with and then started to show more advanced forging such as the use of run time min or custom power ups pushing objects. Just an idea if someone has the time to set it up, Cheers.
Yeah I agree. I think there are enough good quality guides at the moment to setup up a Forging 101 section by now. I hope the mods look into this.
It just means anyone new to forging can just go straight to one thread with all the information they need to get started n then advance and like you mentioned there are good guides around.
All guides that would be in a Forging 101 section are already stickied in the Reach discussion forum. Although, some of them are named pretty badly for the topic they're discussing.
It would help people to have it all in one thread, when I was starting out with forge just being able to click forging 101 and see all the information I needed to start was extremely helpful.
I agree, a Forging 101 section for Reach would be a great help to the newer forgers that are coming to this forum for advise on basics. It would also be nice to have a depository for forging tutorials and guides that apply to Reach. For it to be really successful, the Forging 101 section should have formating rules, similar to the Playtester section, to allow readers to quickly find what they're looking for. ---- I know a lot of helpful advice has already been posted to this forum, but it can be difficult to find that one burried post that might be helpful when it is often in an off-topic thread or on page 8...
Slightly offtopic, but your 1920 x 1080 sig is making this thread really difficult to read, I'd suggest shrinking that down a bit.
Agreed, I thought there was a limit on image size limit for sigs anyway, clearly not. As for a Forge 101. I'd love it if we could create a full Forge Guide but I'm afraid we'd still get lots of the same sort of threads. New members can barely read the one stickied thread of required objects as it is! Even if they do, half the time they just claim they read but still don't get it and y want Infecshun work !!?!//!!? What I think would be sensible is the first guide should just be telling people to go in to Forge and have a look at stuff. Press buttons, look at the menus and play around with the settings. Some people will probably find discovering how to drop a block on to their friends much more amusing than making a proper map.
This could be useful, with some refinements. Describes the effects of using different items as Hills. I could write it in a tutorial-like fashion if desired. EDIT: Other tips not mentioned there: If a Mongoose is a Territory, and it is destroyed, then when it respawns, the 'Goose's color won't sync with that of its Flag (which stays at its spawn point). The Flag will be grey, but the 'Goose will be the same color as its owner. Logic dictates that this applies, too, to other vehicles. Mongeese can be CTF/Assault flag/bomb spawn points, but the items aren't "attached" to the vehicles; they spawn beneath the vehicles. If a player picks up a Weapon-Hill (as in, with a button, not by walking over it for more ammo when already holding the same type of weapon), the Hill's boundaries are not visible to anyone. (Verified in Safe Havens, solo.)
If people read the site updates, they would know that moderators are already working on articles for the forge 101 section. Once they have some, they will also add relevant ones from the community (possibly rewritten by moderators but with credit given). For now, you'll have to satisfy yourself with the search button.
