    2 - 12 Players
    Symmetrical Competitive Map

Caretaker has been a map I have been thinking about making ever since Sandbox was released for Halo 3. I had this grande idea to make map like Hang ‘Em High / Tombstone, only this map would be symmetrical. With the new Forge palette in Halo Reach I started with this idea, kept the design symmetrical, but the map evolved over the development process into what you see today. Caretaker Plaza, as I have named it in the description, has a very urban feel to it.

There are multiple ways around and through the map. From the central Bridge that spans the distance between Bases to the Sewer system that allows you to move from one side of the map to the other safe from Sniper fire. Rockets spawn bottom middle of the map with a Shotgun and Sniper in and behind each Base. There are two Concussion Rifles that sit in the outer rooms where the Sewer Grav Lifts exit into. It is also important to note that all four Grav Lift shafts on the map can be used to drop to the lower levels as well. This can really come in handy if you have to make a quick getaway. Each side of the map has a Grass Rock Garden and an aesthetic Glass Sail; all four of these areas are for more than just looks, as you can use them to jump up to the second level of the map.

    Weapon List

    x8 - DMR
    x4 - Needle Rifle
    x2 - Magnum
    x2 - Assault Rifle
    x2 - Plasma Rifle
    x2 - Plasma Pistol
    x2 - Spiker
    x4 - Needler

    x2 - Shotgun
    x2 - Concussion Rifle
    x2 - Sniper Rifle
    x1 - Rockets
    x1 - Grav Hammer
    x10 - Frag Grenade
    x10 - Plasma Grenades
    x5 - Health Station

With smaller parties I would recommend that you play DMR Starts on this map but with larger groups it still plays well with regular Loadouts. Caretaker also plays great with the Team and FFA Slayer gametypes Rockets, Snipers and SWAT.

Caretaker is an Elite friendly map. I have yet to play a game of Elite Slayer on the map(sadface), but there are no areas on the map that a Spartan can get to, or move through that an Elite cannot follow. There are a lot of sneaky jumps that can be made on this map that once learned and practiced will give you a great advantage or make for a quick way to get into and away from battles.

The Side Tower Lifts take you quickly to the higher levels of the map. If you are a Spartan you can make the jump from these Towers to the Central Bridge with a quick Sprint burst.

Wow, this map looks amazing!! It seriously looks very professionally made and has great aesthetics. I like the fact that you incorporated many ideas into the map and executed it well. This map reminds me a map that was made when Reach first came out, but I forgot the name. I'll download and give a runthrough in forge.

I wish there were more maps like this that go for good balanced gameplay for both teams and not so much on trying to fill there map with aesthetic value, not that there aren't aesthetics here, but I can tell that that wasn't the focus. Hopefully I can get a group together and give this map a whirl, if I do I'll let you know how it went.

Thank you to those of you who sent me feedback and gave this map a whirl this weekend. It was alot of fun.

The feedback was about 95% positive so far. Framerate issues for larger parties and a few weapon tweaks are topping my list for a second version.

I will post the updated version of Caretaker in this thread after about a week or so to ensure everyone who has feedback to give has got it to me.

PM me here on Forgehub or send me a FR on Xboxlive.

    Thanks

I'll be taking a look at this map up close for sure, but I believe some of your frame rate problems you're experiencing are coming from the water, and the gravity lift being in the same area. Both are very taxing in terms of processing power needed to render them.

Check out these articles, they will really help you pin down what's slowing your map's frame rate.

I've already relayed all of my criticisms to you personally, the map has a a great feel and is fun. As you know the map has frame rate problems but it isn't unbearable. The map is still very playable for those concerned about not trying it for that reason. They only seem to come up when players are fighting at extreme ends of the map. I hope you are able to resolve this. Thanks Draw the Line for the helpful post. I'll make sure he sees it if he didn't already.
