I don't know about you guys, but I've been hearing lots of rumors that Bungie will soon be adding a new playlist to The Arena, titled MLG Arena. Obviously, the playlist will feature MLG Team Slayer on MLG map variants. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some community maps thrown in, too. So yeah, I just wanted to share this with you guys and see what you think about it.

I think persistant conjecture would be more accurate than rumour since there's no indication of this being true from either Bungie or MLG, and if anything all evidence points the other way. An MLG playlist in the Competitive section has all but been completely confirmed, but MLG won't submit settings to Bungie for a playlist until they're more finalised than is currently the case (v2 or maybe v3 most likely). I can't see any reason why they'd effectively duplicate some of this Competitive playlist in Arena.

I could be wrong, and I'm not gonna say it won't happen, I've just seen no real indication of it from anyone except the people who whined about MLG effectively being social in Reach saying 'Bungie should!' It seems like they've just taken their desire for some kind of ranked MLG and somehow decided that it must be the case.

If it is true, however, I doubt that Bungie would put any community variants of their own choosing in, since that's just not how the MLG playlist worked in H3 or how it's been described when discussed with relevance to Reach. In H3, not only were all the maps included chosen by MLG (ie. they were the same as the Pro Circuit variants), but MLG even decided the individual weightings of which maps/gametypes came up. The point about the playlist having MLG's name on it is that it's an official reflection of their gametypes, so if there are community maps in any MLG playlist, it will be because they're part of the official gametype rotation.

i think that the second part was understood, but you just misunderstood him.
and i see an MLG playlist happening, but not in arena.

You mean the bit about community variants? I thought that, but if you read this bit:

The implication is that community variants aside from the official MLG rotation maps would be included. Also, 'thrown in' implies, at least to me, that they're being selected past the maps which would have to be included (community made or not), ie. the official MLG gametypes. Since this isn't a matter of 'I wouldn't be surprised', but instead is a dead certainty. Why would there be any doubt that some official MLG maps wouldn't be included just because they're community made?

I could well have misinterpreted it, and it's obviously up to the OP to clarify what he meant, but I did re-read to make sure before typing that part.

I don't see why they wouldn't put MLG into the Arena. The Arena is supposed to be "pro", and MLG is about as pro as you'll get.

It'd just seem odd to effectively have 2 MLG playlists, since there's going to be a full MLG playlist in the Competitive section (Arena being Slayer only). Like I said, it could happen, but again there's been absolutely no indication of this even being a possibility from either Bungie or MLG (the only two sources really worth listening to on this issue) that I've seen.
