Since you can't make the soccer/golf ball a bomb in assault, i was thinking of other ways you could keep score in a soccer or basketball type game...

i created a basketball court in forge, each goal has three man-lifts in front of it pointing at the goal, so when a player hits the ball into one of the lifts (via grav hammer), it's like shooting the ball. Once the ball makes it into the goal, it goes through a system of ramps and grav-lifts and is shot back out into the middle of the court.

This alone is tons of fun, but there is no way to officially keep score... so what i've been trying to do is make it to where once the ball goes in the goal, a bomb will spawn on your teams side for a player to pick up and arm at center court (with the bomb exploding instantly), that way you can officially keep score.

How could i make this happen? Everything I've tried so far hasn't worked... I already have flag stands where i want them, and labeled them as as_bomb.

Any help would be awesome. This game type is already a lot of fun, but it would be easier if the score could be kept. Let's be creative... I know there's no easy way to keep score, but I think if we could come up with a good idea, it would open up a lot of doors.

Look up the Smashball map. To my knowledge this is the only known way so far to keep score in this type of game. But apparently it does a good job (I've downloaded it but have yet to play).

Thanks for the tip... That definitely gave me a few ideas! Hopefully I can change it up a little so that I don't copy his scoring system. I have a feeling there's an easier way to do this. I have a video of this map in my fileshare if anyone wants to check it out.

yeah for that smashball system to work (which is probably the only one that could) it looks like you would need to change around your map.. I was thinking of something that in theory could work, but since with all the limited options, idt you can.. it would be having the ball as the goal, and inside of the goals would be the objective (like flag or bomb) and when the ball went by it, the other team would score.. but I have tried this (with CTF) and it didnt work... too bad only known way is to use stockpile :/

he doesnt mind if people copy it, so go ahead and use the exact scoring system if you want.

Actually, I got it to work just fine on my map. And I have it to where the same ball re-enters the game on it's own, so it doesn't have to respawn, go to the next round, etc. You can just keep on playing. I also put a soft kill zone in the lanes to act as a lane violation (ten seconds in the lane equals death), and a regular kill zone in the actual basket to prevent goal-tending and up above where I have the scoring contraptions. The game is tons of fun, although I haven't played with full teams yet and I haven't done too much testing. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I'll let you guys know when I put it on file share.

...thanks? I read your post on that thread, and I've already come up with a more efficient way to keep score so that gameplay doesn't stop everytime someone scores. It's a lot simpler than the idea you posted, and it relies a lot less on precise physics to score, making it much more reliable.

My scoring system uses a similar concept as the smashball system, but it's very different at the same time. Once I get everything worked out on my map, I'll explain exactly how it works.
