Space Rocket Race Rocket Race has begun once again, and let me be one of the first to say......... BUNGIE'S Rocket Race Maps are ****! That's why i had to make this map, just to show what a GOOD Rocket Race map can look like. Well enough about this, i'll explain the map. Design The map is inspired on an alien world. The ascetics are mostly based on U.F.O.'s Aircrafts and Anti Air guns. I created this map on Hemorrage, and i covered most of it with Wall Colosseums, to make everything more smooth and importantly: better drivable. It's quite simple really, and it's just really nice to play on and a real eye-candy. Extra: There are 15 points to capture and 15 points to score, so every game has a lot of variation. And just to warn you: i wouldn't mess with the soccer ball to much. Also, when racing, you might get surprised by a U.F.O. tractor beam . Btw, I'm gonna try to get this in matchmaking, wish me luck! Let me guess, tractor beam = teleporter? Anyway, great map, I'll try to get a few games in on this next week. (most of my friends only play matchmaking)
Tractor beam.. reminds me of dumb and dumber... Anywho, GREAT ideas! Extremely creative! Couldn't have done it better myself. I had a similar idea with all the coliseum walls, but now I don't have to do it cuz you did! Love the ramps, love the layout, love the aesthetics... just about love everything! I'd totally recommend this for matchmaking btw... looks great. Definite download for me.
yea man i agree that bungie RR maps suck. I played a game on boneyard and i was just like wtf. though the h3 rr maps weren't bad. i hope forged rr maps such as this end up replacing the default rr maps, that would be awesome
This is pretty funny, cause I have a RR map ready to post as well, and it ALSO has a logo on it of similar nature to yours! I've seen a couple variants of Hemorrhage that tried this same tactic (eliminating the hilliness using colosseum walls) and they both played pretty well. Looking forward to seeing how yours stacks up
Well, I must say: this map looks and plays great!! The screenshots aren't even getting close to the real thing and one aspect I really like is that the Anti-air gun actually shoots at the U.F.O. Bungie should really think about adding this map to the matchmaking RR database. It'd be awesome!
Sandtrap was the best H3 map for rocket race and that wad because it was flat and smooth with the occasional elevated area. As i can see here, you've replicated that sort of terrain, i can see it working quite well, not so sure about the tractor beam thing though. Having played it, yeah i see now :S Had a blast playing this with a few friends though, it actually makes rocket race funner than in halo 3, you can really get some speed and the terrain is well...perfect for mongooses really.
Ooh for got sake, the tractor beam ISN'T a teleporter! It's just one of the checkpoints. It was just a little surprise, but whatever.
The theme and decoration is the most well executed portion of the map, it's funny to see the destination as tractor beam, and the aa cannon firing routine is cute. However, whenever I see portions of terrain (that we can't even begin to emulate) eradicated wholecloth with a flat plane I am simply baffled. Going from odd angles to "0" degrees of inference or deflection does not make something "smooth", it makes it completely flat, as well as eradicating any potential for choosing a better driving line than another team other than "slightly more straight". I also think the map itself is too big in general, but it seems even larger and more redundant with these oversized structures in place. I think it's a nice if slightly misdirected effort, but it doesn't really capture the spirit of Rocket Race. There are more things inherently "wrong" with the standard RR maps than any potentially difficult navigation resulting in the pursuit of a poor driving line.
Well ok then, i guess you should starts a Rocket Race Party then and see for yourself. I wasn't all like: ''let make everything flat, yeah that will work'' I actually payed attention to the drivability of the map very closely, and it turned out real nice. It's best if you do a view rounds on it yourself. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. PS; The ramps add a little bit of depth into the game, just ass the bride in the middle. Remember: they where put on the map with care , no mindless ramp placements just to hope it will work.
