    Aliens v1.5

    UPDATE: THE LIGHT MAN CANNON HAS BEEN PUSHED UP SO THAT VEHICLES WON'T GET STUCK.

    MAJOR UPDATE: MAP HAS BEEN SLIGHTLY REVAMPED. DOWNLOAD THE NEW MAP AND GAMETYPE.

    CHANGES: SPAWNING, CRATES ADDED, SLIGHT FIX TO SPAWN KILL WITH LARGER VEHICLES.

    GAMETYPE TWEAKS: IF YOU ARE IN THE HILL ALONE FOR MORE THAN 15 SECONDS, YOU WIN. I FELT THAT IF SOMEONE IS GOOD ENOUGH TO GET THERE SO SOON WITHOUT ANYONE ELSE, THEN THE GAME SHOULD END.

    THERE ARE PROBABLY A FEW BUGS NOW THAT I ATTEMPTED TO ADD IN MORE THINGS. IF YOU CATCH SOME OF THEM, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO REPLY ON WHAT IT IS AND HOW YOU THINK I SHOULD FIX IT.

    HALO: REACH MINIGAME!

    Aliens on MOTHERSHIP

    This is my first mini-game map. Try to make it to the top, there will be a few obstacles on your way...


    So this is what goes down...

    You start off at the bottom of the giant hill climb. On your way up, a variety of vehicles will roll down, attempting to block you from your goal to reach the top.

    The vehicles rolling down at you will start off small, with mongooses. With time, they will progressively get larger.

    Soon enough, the vehicles will reach their maximum size, with Wraith and Scorpion Tanks flying down the hill.

    If you procrasinate long enough, or take too long waiting for your friends, in time a Man Cannon will spawn and begin to launch the vehicles directly at you. If you're lucky, you will make it to the top, with time to watch your friends get crushed, by the never ending avalanche of vehicles.

    Before I dl, I would like to see more pictures and maybe a little better of an explanation.

    Edit: Now that I see how the map looks I will definitely Download for sure, thanks for getting the pictures in so fast and I can't wait to get a game going

    Nice ideas! Pretty dang creative... love how the vehicles provide a sense of urgency.

    Just played this solo and I can't wait to get a handfull of people to do it with me. The fun factor won't last forever but the vehicle physics keep things entertaining for at least a few rounds. What more could you ask for from a minigame? Good job.

    Thank you guys for the positive feed back. There is always things you can fix in games, and definately this one, considering it is the first version of it. What do you guys think I should add on or remove?

    Well the only thing that comes to mind is certain vehicles, usually the banshee and wraith have habits of falling off before they're anywhere near you. It's not a big deal and I'm not sure how you would fix it. Adding bits either side of the bridge would help the vehicles but give the players something to get onto if knocked correctly.

    Oh, and I see a pic of a Scorpion, but one never came down on mine. Did it fall off too much?

    The Banshee and the Wraith fall off less in v1.2, which is the one that is up for downloads at the moment.
    There was a problem with the path up, where towards the top, the bridges were not aligned well. I fixed that which inconsequently led to the vehicles not flying off as much.

    Also, if you had noticed, when the Man Cannon spawned, a lot of the vehicles would be thrown off the map. I fixed that, too.

    About the Scorpion. The picture I took of it was the first test run. When it spawned, it would sit there, slowly rolling down, and then would tumble off the edge. It was just a waste of time.

    There will be a more improved version of Mothership coming out soon. I'll leave the current one up there, and put a link to the new one in the description.

    First of all, I want to say I love this map. I wasn't sure what to think at first, but when I got 3 other friends to play it with me, we all had a blast.

    There are a few improvements that could be made, though. I personally prefer to have a shield door right next to the teleporter so that you don't get splattered right away, but that may just be me. Also, it would be nice if instead of one centered man cannon, you had 2 on the sides so you didn't have to hug the wall to get passed it.

    All and all, its a blast. Great map, guy.

    This map is great! I tried creating a map like this before finding yours, but I couldn't get the vehicles to fall right. The map is very fun to play with a small group of friends, and I must have played it over at least 3 times. Perhaps you should add other items such as Crates or the Purple Covenant Weapon Crate things (can't remember the exact name)?

    Either way, 5/5 stars.

    Thanks, man. When I release the totally revamped version, I'll be sure to put some more stuff in there, like crates ;)

    I've played this a lot more since my last post and with other people. I think memaw and firewolf both make good points. A shield door and more objects seem pretty essential.

    I've noticed one other thing. The spawning system you have in place. When playing with 4 players, one player often spawned on the grassy area over the colisseum, and occasionally other areas. I do like the system you have in place where people have to run out of the soft zone into a teleporter but I think it needs refinement. I'd like to see the distance and angle between spawn and teleporter made all the same (since some are different and cause unfair advantages). I'd also like to see a more uniform spawn system, maybe where everyone starts in a tiny room. Although then one lucky person won't see the "I love u" sign. Ah well.

    This map may have started out as a test, but I've had more fun on here than many other minigame maps combined. It's near impossible to not have fun when dealing with game physics. If you can polish this up so it's completely noob-proof and pro-standard, you're onto a winner.

    Edit: It might be worth investing in individual teleports per person, so they don't all spawn on eachothers heads. If you put them all in a line it should be fine. You could also create a funnel type bridge at the bottom, so you can accomodate 8 players/teleport receivers. This is definately a game type where more = better. :)

    Looking forward to seeing the new versions.

    Will try it tonight or tomorrow, looks like you covered everything.

    I think personally I'd take off the 15 second win thing. Half the fun for me and my friends has been watching the last guy fail terribly at getting up the hill. You get all the "oooh ooooH OOOH... OOWWWHHH He's doooown!!" moments that you'd miss if you had this setting on.

    Then again, depends entirely on the people playing. It's an easy setting to change if people want to. Maybe mention this in the update?

    Edit: Gamemode link is broken at time of writing.

    So after playing it a few times, I find it fun enough, although, with people unkillable and often all reaching the top at once, it is impossible to win.

    Although I see you have made changes? I will try the new versions out :)

    But overall like the concept, although there weren't enough spawns and had to kill myself multiple times with more than a couple people :p

    Hey man, I saw your map on the hub while looking for inspiration for some single-player minigames I can play by myself. As soon as I saw it I was like "why didn't I think of that?'. However, not being on LIVE makes downloading and playing your map rather difficult, soooooo I kinda went and made my own version, and goddamn if this isn't one of the funnest things I've played so far!

    I've got it set up almost exactly as in your pics (UFO in same place with 45 degree Xlarge bridges all the way down), and there is a ton of vehicles/objects that come down.

    I found a really fun way to play this (alone or with friends) is to set up a Stockpile variant where flags spawn inside the UFO, and put collection points way back down at the bottom (I made a kind of island thing to start on) so the basic objective is to get up, get a flag, then bring it all the way back safely. 3-5 points to win is good coz it can take while sometimes.......also 50% damage and assault rifles so it's pretty much impossible to kill without melee.

    I'm still tweaking and testing, but don't worry, I'm not going to upload this and just rip off your work. Like I said before, no LIVE makes things annoying. It's just for personal fun atm, but hey when i get back online I'll sling you a version for testing/comparison/whatever if you're interested.

    Massive credit to you for giving me the inspiration and basis for a helluva good map :)

    Spawns in a line (on my version anyway) don't work well because of spawn-killing. I'm still trying to think of a good way to keep everyone spawning separately but still not too far from the cannon that launches you onto the ramp.

    Initial spawns are separated into individual starting rooms but are a little far away to respawn into, I think. It would just take too long to get back in the game.

    God, I wish I could get my version up here, it's been tested with up to 3 players so far and my friends and i have had a blast every time. It's basically just a fancier version of this.

    If my friend gets his LIVE hooked up soon I'll try to get it up on his fileshare and start a thread for it. (Provided jakeysauve is cool with that of course)

    Only bad thing is if everyone gets in at once, round doesn't end. And sometimes spawns mess up.
