1.4 EDIT:: I have drastically altered the statue to look less like an elephant, adjusted the teleporter platforms and fixed the teleporters so they drop you off on the opposite side like in the original and I added support for Assault, CTF, Headhunter, KotH and Oddball. I made this remake of Gemini for the Forgotten Treasures contest, and because I loved this map in Halo 2. This is also my first post here on Forge Hub. Anyway, I had Halo 2 Vista opened up the whole time I was forging so I had a direct reference point for everything. I took very few liberties with the map design, but I eventually ended up with merely $80 left in the budget, so I had to work with what I had. After freeing up some more money, I put a ton of aesthetics on the exterior part of the map. (Note: You cannot actually get out to the buildings outside.) The map currently only supports Slayer, but that includes Slayer, Team Slayer, Elite Slayer, SWAT, etc. I will go back later today and update the map for other gametypes. Weapons: All weapons are the same, with similar respawn times. I had to adjust spawn times and clip sizes to suit Reach, and swap a few weapons for the new ones. Shotgun x 2 (1 spare clip each) Focus Rifle x 1 Plasma Pistol x 2 Energy Sword x 1 Needle Rifle x 2 Plasma Rifle x 2 Plasma Repeater x 2 Concussion Rifle x 2 (1 spare clip each) Needler x 2 (1 spare clip each) Plasma Grenades x 8 Overshield x 1 The map also has the Juicy FX. Ramp in Red Team spawn room. Top Red ramp. The upper room with the garden (Energy spawns behind the tree. It is not set to fixed to prevent that annoying glitch that prevents you from picking it up from a corpse). Rock statue. I didn't try to make a perfect statue, but I made the shape of the original statue. Top Blue ramp/teleporter. You can see the Concussion Rifle, replacing the Brute Launcher from Halo 2. Blue Spawn. Overview of the Atrium and statue in the background. I used Plasma Rifles in the Atrium and Plasma Repeaters at the base of the statue. The back room with the Focus Rifle, standing in for the Beam Rifle. Base of the statue, the alter and the Overshield. The exterior and some of the aesthetics in the background (Death barriers prevent anyone from leaving the intended playspace.) Overview of the exterior. Hope you guys like it, I had fun making it. If there are any problems with it, I will try to fix them as soon as possible but I only have a few days to do so. I am having heart surgery on Friday, and I won't be back for 2 weeks. EDIT: I altered the statue to be more like the Prophet statue. I suck at forging with rocks and I couldn't get the little details such as the eyes. Version 1 Version 1.2 Version 1.4
This is a pretty good remake of Gemini. I like the use of ramps to give the side halls a smoother less blocky look. My only complaint however is that you could have spent more time trying to make the prophet statue look more like a prophet instead of creating the pointless aesthetic structures outside. And don't say it can't be done either. I've seen some amazing things constructed out of rock pieces. I'd definitely recommend working on the prophet if this is your submission for the forgotten treasures contest since much of it is judged off extreme accuracy and attention to detail.
I altered the statue, updated the link and posted newer pictures. I also fixed a small hole in the map near the top that I hadn't noticed before.
this looks like a neat map. i was never really a fan of Gemini, but the aesthetics on this one look superb. i'm adding it to my download queue now
Updated to V1.2 which includes smoother floors in some areas of the map and slightly larger hallways for Elites to fit through.
Not sure if serious... Anyway, it looks like you didn't include the walls along the back sword area, and the top teleporter area seems a little large. Other than that, nice job.
I really like this remake. One problem (I think) is that the teleporters are supposed to spawn you on opposite sides. That is one feature I remember from Halo 2 and it used to confuse me at first. And I noticed you set the overshield to spawn 75 sec, was it really that quick in Gemini? Also, is there a certain gametype you prefer to play more of on this map? Great job btw, you really captured the feel of Gemini.
I fixed the issue with the teleporters, adjust the statue and altered the teleporter platforms as well as added support for a lot of gametypes. Thanks for the advice, I had completely forgotten about the teleporters taking you to the other side in the Atrium. And it respawned after 60 seconds in the original, I believe. I changed it to 120 seconds in 1.4.
Gemini is def a Top 10 Halo map, GREAT CHOICE for a remake. Going to DL this for sure. Props for getting the sword tree in there as well.
Thanks. I was going to put the sword up in the air, but then the floating weapon glitch would happen. That is one of my complains about my own map, that I just couldn't pull off.
First: I appreciate your avatar is the combine symbol from half-life2. I love that game. Second: nice work on Gemini. I did always like that map, but felt it was super dark. You've done a nice job making the space feel bigger, but without messing with the size. I'll cl this and check it out.
If you got the Combine reference, you should have got the Zombine reference as well. And I think the map is really close to the original size, I tried my hardest to make it to scale. I think it being brighter makes it seem larger, perhaps. Anyway, thanks for the compliments.
Zombine are probably the creepiest things since Barnacles in that game. The bigger space makes the map make more sense, in my opinion. I was never very good at halo 2, and while that map pissed me off a lot, it was a cool map. I also wouldn't worry about the floating sword, people should understand. Here's to Gemini, the first "my map has a tree in it" halo map. Take that, Vanilla.
Hey, I'm glad you actually took my advice! I took a look around the changes made-- the rock statue looks cool and the red and blue lights really help as reference points. Sorry to sound like a nag tho, but I noticed when you go through teleporters, you end up facing the wall. I'm not sure if you intended people to go through them as they walk backwards. I think a simple fix would be to rotate the receiver node. Again, great job and ty for making the coolest remake from H2.
Thank you so much for this remake, I have been waiting for someone to remake this map and you did an excellent job; keep up the good forging =)
