Every time I make a map I always think it looks great... until I get towards the middle of my process. I can't make a map and finish it. On rare occasions I can but it's very difficult to. I either don't want to finish it or give up! Also I can't make a map during the day... At night I'm half asleep and think everything looks good and I finish it. Any ideas on how I can make myself actually like my own creations?
One thing you may want to do is a step based map progression. Say you have 3 areas that you are going to build. Whichever is the most important you put to the front of your schedule lets say this is the main fighting area. Next you have the 2 bases as an example. These will be put into equal timeframes back to back to allow for easier reference to your prior base built. So now you know what you are building go ahead and set the time line to build each thing. 2 weeks for main area... 1 week for base 1... 1 week for base 2. 1 week for weapon and spawn placement. This is just an example. Say your creative juices are flowing really well you can do more or less really depending on your mood. Take your time design your idea on paper... or on sketch up. First you want to design your idea. Second you want to build your original design exactly the way you invision it. Next you want to break your design think of any flaws that may happen. 4th you want to clean your map up get it to where it will work with nothing on it. 5th you want to start working weapon placement and spawn areas. (try regular TS to start) 6th once this has been adapted to work well for TS try to get it to work for other variants. What you need to do to like your own creation in the end is to not think to hard about how others may perceive it or what may be wrong with it. Build it fix it perfect it. That is the best you can do. I wish you luck!
