Anyone else having there maps become unloadable? As in, you select the map from the list and another map's name comes up and loads? I've lost quite a bit of effort over the last few days due to this...
Yep. It sucks, big time; but as far as I know the only way to get it back is to remake it. This already happened twice to me; however I'm not sure what caused it.
This has occurred in my sessions as well, and the only result I can think of is similar to the problem in Halo 3. Eg; You save your new map, then either load up a different map and choose the "save" option instead of "save as new", or do the same in another person's game. I'm not sure exactly how this works, but it usually is random when it gives me the first choice instead of the second.
This happened to me as I was nearing the end of finishing a project. After roughly 6 hours of forging, it somehow got saved over by an invasion map I was working on, but it didn't change the name. The precaution I'm taking right now is just saving as a new map every time I exit forge. Also, you can save many maps with the exact same name now, so it's not that bad.
I recommend saving maps as "Save as new..." every hour or so. If one of them glitches, you still have a backup. It's better building for one hour (or less since you know what to do already) than building for 5 hours to get the same product.
Yeah...I had done an earlier backup for just that reason...I was actually able to recover the last map from my "recent files" menu....though it was a playthrough from yesterday and not this morning....
One possible reason for this issue is not manually selecting a map when you open forge. In Halo 3, if you saved a map and quit the game and turned it off... then restarted Halo 3 and went to Forge, by default the game would normally select the last map you saved. The problem with that was, it wasn't the actual last saved map. It was a previous version of it. If you tried to open this version and then resave your edits, only the option to Save As New Map... came up. This may be a similar issue. Try manually selecting the map you're working on each time you start up Forge. This may resolve the issue...
your work isn't being lost, its just a glitch, and it happened to me before. im not sure what i did, i think i either went into matchmaking for a bit or restart my xbox, but sure enough it worked again. also you might want to try loading up a non-forgeworld map.
i've had this happen where it kept saying "forgeworld" even though i was continuously clicking on my map. i thought the map was lost, but i tried it anyway and loaded what it was telling me was "forgeworld" lo and behold, my map was still there, it just had forgotten its name. strange glitch
I've lost two of my maps and one of someone elses I downloaded. Easy enough to redownload the one, but I lost a completely finnished invasion map. I am very angry about that, the other of mine was a goof off infection map, which was fun but only took five minutes to make and three to remake. I've lost a week on the invasion one, the only benefit I get to redo some peices to make it better. I might like my Dish map but it really needs to stop being a leach and take over all the other maps in my selection. And Fencerman I did restart my xbox, no luck.
Sagan! you`re a life saver! i just overwrite one of my maps by accident and thank god there it was. gametype-temporary history. This looks like a known glitch so watch out guys. Bungie.net : Halo: Reach FAQ : 9/12/2010 1:23 PM PDT
I had the same problem. It was after I just finished it completely, only testing to be done.... It sucks. See if any of your friends saved it maybe.
I jogged the memory of one of my maps that "forgot it's name" by simply having my good buddy save it, rename it, host it, invite me to it, and let me re-save it. Bam. Name is no longer "Forge World", and my friend doesn't even appear in the credits which is awesome (Though when it makes it into our custom games rotation I'll be sure to credit him for collaborative glitch busting). Hope this helps.
