Hey everyone, as the title stated im new to forgehub. And I just have a few questions regarding the forge. I have a very solid idea for a map. Im still doing some sketches of it but I think with some time it can be very possible. My only problem is...I have no forge experience. I can sit in forge all day and get no where. So really, my question is...where would someone start when it comes to building a map?
You may consider taking a look at Inasane54's Map Design Theory post. There are also many other tutorials and tips to find all over the internet. When I first started (not long ago), I just started going at it, and learned as I went. For the more intricate parts (i.e. spawns, weapon placement) I took a look at some design theory. If you have an idea, my suggestion would be to just play around with Forge and see what you can do before you start looking for help.
Very good advice from Mr Corn i would echo what he has said in just playing around with map designs and structures. But when it comes to weapon placements, objectives and spawning i would probably search for one of the many guides on BungieNet. Making the map is definitely the easy part of forging. best of luck! look forward to seeing your first map
Thanks guys since my original post i've been messing with theories of mine and getting a little more comfortable with forge. I'll update as soon as I have something worth critiquing.
If your map is symmetrical start with a piece thats in the centre. If its asymmetrical i normally start for the biggest or most major section of the map.
Start placing spawns and weapons first. Even before you start the map structure. But seriously, just start with whatever part that inspires you the most and is the most striking. Oh and while that was a joke, it has some use: think about the spawns and weapons while building the map.
