    Behemoth

A massive Forerunner ship run aground. Designed by Vincent Torre.

    Designed and Forged by: MickRaider
    Gametypes: All gametypes supported
Recommended: CTF, Slayer, Stockpile, Assault. 12 players
    Supports 4-16 players.

    Description:
Behemoth is at its heart a spiritual successor to my halo 3 map, "Leviathan." Though aside from the same general shape, Behemoth is a totally new beast.

I had designed the shape months before I even knew about forge, built it in sketchup, and finally constructed it in Reach's awesome forge. The map is completely symmetric, thus it works with all gametypes well.

Each side has 4 levels. The base level, the 2nd level, the 3rd level base, and the 4th level roof. The roof is vision limited with a railing to help deter players from camping up there. As well there's no spawn points or weapons on that level so players can't stay up there for long without needing to resupply.

My favorite gametype thusfar has been Stockpile. Though CTF is really fun. Overall it supports all the gametypes very well. I spent a lot of time working with the spawning trying to get it perfect and encouraging map flow.

The piece laying itself took about 2 days, while the objectives, spawning, weapons, and other tweaks took about a week. Overall I love the speed at which you can build now and I look forward to making more maps instead of dreading it like in halo 3.

    Weapon List:

    [weapon]/[number on map]/[# of clips]/[respawn time]

    DMR / 12 / 2 / 30
    Needle Rifle / 4 / 2 / 30
    Plasma Repeater / 6 / 2 / 30
    Plasma Pistol / 6 / 2 / 30
    Needlers / 4 / 2 / 30

    Grenade Launcher / 1 / 5 / 90
    Plasma Launcher / 1 / 2 / 120
    Gravity Hammer / 1 / 2 / 30
    Sniper / 2 / 2 / 120
    Rocket Launcher / 1 / 1 / 150
    Shotgun / 2 / 2 / 90

    Plasma Grenades / 18 / 15

    Health Packs / 6 / 15

Great job MickRaider! It is aesthetically pleasing, I can tell that you put a lot of planning into this, and it looks like it will play extremely well. I saw the name of who built it once I clicked on the thread and instantly thought "I am so downloading this!" even though I hadn't seen pics yet. Great job, the rock pond is really neat and I will be playing a lot of customs on this. But isn't 12 DMR's a bit much? Maybe six would work better perhaps? And how many health packs are on this map?

You are completely certain that this can host a 2v2 even though it has enough power weapons for every player to carry two? DAMN thats a fair map ;) Also, thats a lot of DMR's. I do appreciate the irony of me saying this (its what you said on my first map, something full of snipers, swords, sentinel beams, splazers, rockets....) but moderation usually makes for a more competitive and fair map!

But really i'm jk. The dual Shotty-Snipes are over-powered in smaller games, but thats about the only issue. The large variety weapons creates a more interesting experience, which is really good. Great map, Mick.

12 DMR's might sound like a lot, but this map is deceivingly large. Without a long range weapon like that it can be very difficult at times. You really need to be running around with a mid range/long range at all times. With 12 DMRs and 4 Needle rifles that gives 16 decent ranged weapons on the map. With 2 symmetric bases that leaves 8 per side. With 3 floors that leaves around 2 per level with some in the middle.

Really 2 per level isn't very many, though I'm a fan of DMR battles but you really need it for a map of this scale. They're spread out enough that you have mostly AR battles and the broken lines of sight make it not very dominant. A lot of players complained they couldn't find a DMR so I worked on increasing their number. From 12 to 16, not a huge jump by any means, but players were able to find the weapon they were after quickly.

As for the health pack, there's 6. Forgot to add that to the OP. I originally had 4 (2 per side) but freed up some budget by deleting lights and added another pair. I think it helps.

I hope you enjoy it :)

It might sound like a lot, but they're well spread out and separated enough that it plays very well. I've been loving playing doubles on it, though it's not one of it's best gametypes. Reach is a whole new beast and it seems like a lot of weapons and variety is a good thing.

This looks amazing! It's nice to see a map that isn't just a bunch of hastily thrown together floating walkway fest a la Guardian. The weapons list is also impressive. I'll play a game or two on it, and return with my take on playability

Let me know what you think.

I updated the pictures a bit to be a little nicer looking. Hopefully it looks more appealing to people now :)

    Oooohh... pretty.

Leviathan was a map that could've, should've, but didn't deliver because of the limitations of Halo 3's forge. It was a great map, but I get the feeling that you wanted to do more with it.

This map looks like a huge improvement to Leviathan and I really like how you put the roof on the second floor. The absence of a roof on Leviathan kind of broke the map.

    Great job and downloading now.

    ... I'm so cool for capypasta :p

Stockpile was also my favorite gametype during testing.

I was really impressed with how well this map flows when we first played on it.
You have a very good grasp of level design and flow.

This map is a real blast to play, everyone should download and give it a shot.
IMO, its gonna be a keeper for a long time.

Great job Mick, looking forward to the next project.

Pretty blown away by this one man, I almost don't know what to say. I love how the map is complex in a way, but because of the symmetry and how well it flows it's very easy to grasp. I think it's pretty apparent that you really spent a lot of time thinking about this.

Something a lot of people may not realize, is that you completely built this in sketch up first before Reach even came out. And that enabled you to make an amazingly solid map, surprisingly fast.

The aesthetics are amazing to me too. . . but that might be due to the fact that I'm still in awe about how good forgeworld stuff looks. No, you just did an amazing job, period.

Thanks for the mention in the thread btw, I wish I could have earned that more by providing some more testing. Work has been insane lately though, damn.

I'm really looking forward to getting many, many (MANY!) more games on here. I'm still unsure about that roof layer. . . I can't quite put my finger on it. . . but it seems like it could be more awesome. We need to be careful though, any more awesome and we might tear reality. MORE PLAYTESTING!

It's so sad when such an incredible map doesn't get the amount of attention it really deserves. This map really is incredible, in every way shape and form. Perhaps it's the diminutive feeling I get when I'm on it, the feeling of how small I am in comparison. Maybe it's the tactical mindset I get when battles are taking place on either side of the map. I don't know what it is, but I just love this map. Maybe it's purely the fact that this map is probably the best, most well-designed map in Reach so far. I think that's it.

    Again, Mick, fantastic job.

i really like the layout of the map but the screen lag i get when playing this map really kills the experiance of this map. I hope you update the map if not well its was fun for the one game on it

Thanks for checking it out. I did hear the complaints about framerate lag but I thought I fixed it once I removed the lights. Could you tell me what parts of the level you experienced it on? The only time people complained about framerate lag was when there was a lot of people and explosions around them, which is just a problem with reach.

I've been trying to recreate the lag, but I just haven't experienced it for myself to do anything about it.

MickRaider you've done it again! When playing this I instantly felt like a Vincent Torre design due to it's unique look and layout. All the man-cannons make this map all the better. Your weapon placement was outstanding and your initial spawn points for each team were spread out perfectly. Great job Mick!

Awesome map, It shines with 5v5 slayer, Me and the homies couldn't get enough of this one, The only thing that bothered me was the excessive DMR its dead on in some places but in the closer range places it can get annoying, Overall GREAT SUCCESS lolz @ the Bungie comment, Your wife called it a ship haha.

Vince, as we've spoken about many times, this map is a perfect example of a "spiritual successor" to Leviathan, the original. The base design is still there, but it's seen a massive overhaul. Anyone who hasn't downloaded this, download it now, it's a keeper.

I just downloaded the map, did a quickly run through but havn't played a match on it yet. Overall I gotta say, very nice map. Large, but not exactly wide open.

The one question I had was with the two Sniper Spawns, they seem relatively close to each other to the point that whoever gets to one first can end up taking the second. Has it played out like that during testing at all?

Wow, nice map! I only took a quick walk around, but from what i've seen this is REALLY fun to play on. I really like how open the map is, but how you still added enough cover. And walking around the map feels so... Natural. It's just genious. Nice rock pond too :)

Edit: nominated you at the FhF thread. The best of luck!

Great job on this map! I downloaded this and walked around on it for a while, then decided to play a few games on it, and it was really fun to play on. Nice job creating this map!
