Ok so I had an idea to get out of forgeable maps, so I done it, and got out, but most of the time you either die asap or get the countdown, but then I loaded the video in theatre and flew about in camera mode.

Ok so after flying for about 20 minutes, I found tons upon tons of pointless scenery! So much 3D and 2D objects taking up memory!? What is the point in this? Did the map developers get bored?

(This WAS taken out of a forge game, not a campaign game)

Some of those objects are necessary, like that box. If they haven't changed the way they make maps much since CE, that's the frame. I forget what it does, but I know that without it, the map will NOT be converted into a .map.

They probably got bored. Besides, it's not like your system renders it all at once, they use portals so there isn't much of a toll on your system, only a tiny increase in the map load time.

Left over items aren't uncommon in games (Halo CE's Engineer or Halo 2's Pure Form/Tank for example) and its not like Bungie had to leave out tons of content because they didn't have enough room on the disc.

And I think the portals he's talking about are the way Bungie uses the engine to only render what the player can see.

Because the system can handle it. Why make extra work for yourself hiding 1/4 or 2/4 of a box, when there is no need too? They use that system in campaign and they do it with terrain if it's very far away and is in the lip of a hill, but srsly, why complain? It doesn't effect your experience, it makes it better.

That is really, really cool. For Reflection, they needed to have a city that you can see out of the windows- when looking at the correct angle, all of those random things line up to form the city skyline!

    So... how'd you do it?
