For those of you who went, how was it? I went at like 11:00 and got the last spot in a Halo 3 tournament, thinking I would get my ass handed to me. I finished in second the first round, which kept me in. I ended up winning, prizes being first copy of Reach and $15. It was a lot of fun, most fun I've had at GameStop. I didn't get to play Reach much because my parents made me go to sleep. And here I sit with a laptop instead...
I went to my local walmart to pick it up, and just to be sure, I left at around 11:15. We had some special stuff at our place, and the first ten get some cool reach ****, and I got number 10. By the time I got home it was already like 1, so I played forge for like 30 minutes before crashing.
Got there, signed up for a FFA tournament. Stood in line till about an hour before the tourny began. I think I did pretty good, out of about 20 loud little shits I got in the semi-finals. Loud little shits meaning 8-18 year old boys who think and vocally said "Naw man i'm a freaking god at Halo".........Yah? Well you lost the first ****ing round you ****. We played the tounament in the back of 3 minivans backed up to the Gamestop, flat screen TVs and 12-Packs of every soda you could want (Dr. Pepper). Funny thing about that is right when these guys got there Halo Reach edition, they all put it in the XBox and a few brave souls were all like "Hey man SPOILER ALERT!", "Turn that Off!!" "You jerks! Go back home and play it in your mom's basment!". I didn't mind because I was next in line. Got inside and through fate got to walk up to the open counter where one of the Gamestop Employees i'm pretty cool with was. Got my Legendary edition, got home, tried to assemble Noble Team, gave up, now i'm thinking about super gluing their weapons on. >
Got there about 10:30pm. Returned a defective used headset and got my receipt. Stood in line. Got a free can on warm Red Bull. Got my copy of Reach at about 12:05. Waiting for a bus for about 30 minutes. Put in my Recon helmet code, tried putting in the code on my receipt for the Mjolnir... but it didn't work. Played some Legendary Campaign. Fell asleep. Woke up in about 4 hours. Played a little more campaign. Tried my receipt code again. Search the web and find out that the 16-digit code was for the halo statue contest and my armor code didn't print on the receipt. Called up GameStop to get my code. Input my code. Made breakfast. Looked at ForgeHub. Posted in this thread. About to continue on campaign some more.
I got to my gamestop (EB Games, cause I'm Canadian) at about 11:30. Waited outside for about half an hour, then this chick comes out in a reach t-shirt. She starts asking people if they wanted any 48 hour trials. I put my hand up and was the only one there that did. So, I got about 10 of 'em... Then after about another half an hour of waiting I went inside and picked up mah legendary. Night over. Oh, and I also got 3 of the gamestop exclusive armor codes... sold 'em to my friends.
Went to EB Games at 10, lost the first round in the tournament. Went to get a burger then jumped in line. Got it by 12:30, as well as the Recon helmet and Mjolnir chestpeice as well as a noice poster. Dropped my friends off at home and started playing at 1am. 18 hours later, I was in bed.
Got there at 9. got my slip/receipt. Left. Came back at 11. Watched people freak on eachother in the tourney. The floor outlet they were using for the xboxes and tv's began smoking. Then lit on fire. Then i got reach. Good times.
Mine was quite fun. I was the last one to show up. While my store was giving away free posters, didn't win one but I already have one of the bigger ones from them (helps to be mates with everyone that works there) I was the only one there that was not either horrible fat or incredibly nerdy. The only one that seemed like a completely normal dude. I was also the only one who did not have his parents drive him. Fun thing about being 27 and owning my own house and truck... Anyway right before midnight they gave away a hand carved statue of the master chiefs hand holding the AI chip with a Cortana statue coming out of it. The statue was made by WETA Studios (The company that made Lord of the Rings movies) and they made 1000 of them so yea it looked cool but not really special. I did manage to win it though. And to further piss everyone else there off, even though I was the last one to arrive, I was the first to receive my copies of the game because I had the foresight to be the first one to pre-order.
I went at around 12:10. There was still quite a big line. This one guy came out of the store with his Reach Xbox and yelled: "HAKUNA MATATA!" and threw it on the sidewalk and started to hit it with both his hands then picked it up and walked to his car while everyone was laughing at him. Good times. I picked mine up, put in recon code, played about half the campaign then went to sleep.
I was told my local Play N' Trade was having a tournament and winner gets Reach free. I was also told the two best players in my suburban area were not going. Naturally, I thought I had it in the bag. Both were lies, no tourney, and they showed up. It was still a lot of fun though, there were like 7 or 8 of us, all true halo fans. They let us play Reach from 11-12 because they're cool like that. Then we all went home and gamed all night. Sleepy the entire next day. Went pretty well.
Worst midnight launch ive been to yet. EB Games wollongong, Australia. Opened at 11. All we did was walk in to get a number for place in line. We then got to wait and do nothing at all. They didn't even let us in the store we had to sit outside and wait for the hour. At 12pm everyone jsut got the game and left. Boringest midnight launch yet.
