I found this thread on B.net:

Bungie.net : Halo: Reach Forum : (Spoilers) Secret Collectibles/Killables/Pushables (Spoilers)

I find this to be interesting. What are the bobs for? Will there be some special ending/secret if you kill all of them?

Apparently, there's an achievement in the bungie marathon game on XBLA that tells you to "Kill all the Bobs, punch all the switches, and read every terminal." Do you guys think this relates to something in Reach? Considering those golden elites are called bobs, and people have found hidden switches that do random things, I think it does relate.

I'd suggest adding *spoiler* to the thread name.

Apparently I've killed 4 Bobs so far (I'm guessing in the medal chest, that's what the "Seek and Destroy" medals are for?) yet I don't remember seeing any golden ranger elites... Hmm... I'll defiantly start keeping an eye out though.

I've killed one. I think that was the one in Lone Wolf, or it could've been the one on ONI: Sword Base.

    I'm not sure.

Some how I've killed 3. 2 on Sword Base and 1 on Tip of the Spear.

Is there a Bob on each level?

People are guessing that there probably are, but so far no bobs have actually been found on every level. There's a list of which levels have them in that thread I linked to in the first post.

"Punched all switches, played on Total Carnage and never ever left a single Bob alive."

^^^That's an actual Achievement description from the Xbox Live port of Marathon: Durandel, one of Bungie's first games.

My guess is that if you kill all the Bobs,

And find and read every Data Pad,

And flip all the hidden Switches,

    That something will happen.

As for what actually happens once you do all that, I have no clue. Oh, and I'm pretty sure that if this [more or less confirmed] secret is real it'll stick as closely as possible to the Achievement from Marathon, meaning you'll have to do it all on Insane Carnage (Legendary), or something.

There are more switches - the tribute room, and I think there are more.

It's a really good idea anyway, and I think a few people at b.net are going to do something like that or similar in a 4-player legendary co-op. I wonder what will happen, if anything does?

This enemy on Winter Contingency is not actually a BOB! - he carries a data pad and spilling his blood enables you to read said data pad, all the bobs are Ranger class and you can view the ones youve killed in the enemies link on Bungie.net (wipe them out...), they are always visible in thier gold armour and will appear briefly before using camo and dissapearing altogether so kill them quick!!

It would be easier to find them if you just look for them in Theater after playing a mission. I may do that if I ever get bored of forging. (not gonna happen for awhile.)

I ran into a Bob on Winter Contingency at the "Dam" type area halfway through, right after you get onto the vehicle. I hopped out and he came outta nowhere and got right in my face.

Yeah, theres like four aggressive ones and thats the famous one.

Btw, Insane Carnage is equivalent to Mythic, or all skulls on. Not just legendary ;)
