I remember in Halo 3 how towards the end everyone began getting sick of sandbox's bland architecture. Do you reckon this is going to happen to Forgeworld? Because none of the other maps have much forging capabilities, Forgeworld will be the only map used for forge. This means that we are going to be seeing the same architecture and colours over and over again and eventually making us sick of forgeworld. I understand that the map gives us a wide range of areas to forge on plus ships with some sweet effects, but it still has the same objects and look. I hope I don't sound too negative, I just thought I'd throw that out there and - as the title suggest - give you guys some food for thought. Happy forging and Reach is amazing!
Reach will most definitely have DLC, and will most definitely consist of new "forge worlds," along with new multiplayer maps, and possibly more armory content.
If there's no new forge world, and the maps aren't included in MLG gametypes, I will not be buying any new map packs. There's just no point when we have Forge World. Bungie has demonstrated a stunning inability to make maps in Reach that actually work decently in competitive play. How on Earth did they think Zealot's space section wouldn't just become a campfest? How did they think Sword Base was a good idea in general? Did they not see the ridiculous spawn trap on The Cage? Why did they bother to remake Ascension? Countdown and Boardwalk are the only half-decent non-remakes, and I'm not fully convinced that Boardwalk isn't trash.
Strongly agree, except boardwalk is "trash". Who honestly places a sniper rifle, at the very peak of the map, with a view of the entire map except an underground tunnel system? Strongly disagree. In regards to the actual topic, Bungie will release a new forgeworld style map, because in my honest opinion, the textures have already become bland, nothing appears to merge well in regards to textures (like block 1x1 has different skins to 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5), you can tell exactly what people are using when merging stuff together leaving the final result looking messy. As was discussed yesterday in the lolbox, Reach hasn't hit anywhere near it's full potential in respects to gameplay and forging. I'm reserving my opinion on whether its a good game until a map pack comes out with decent maps. Like Halo 3 initially, was a good game but it needed improvements (beat down system etc...) and then the map packs came out like with foundry which spurred masses of map creations, and then an even better pack with sandbox which caused thousands and thousands of variants of maps. In my eyes, Reach is only the beginning.
While I do see them making another forge world, the pallet options would be limited.. when you think of all major forerunner architecture its basically tech and Stone. And I highley doubt people would want a sandbox 2.0 I for one got sick of that pallete. And if you think of human architecture remember the pallete to foundry, foundry was never intended to be used the way and even the sweetest maps where mostly sweet based on geo and not texture. I for one would love a pallete similar to The pit with the yellow parts having diffrent color options. And espeically on a landscape that features a air field/strip. Sadly though in the end the most viable forgeworld option left is covenent. : /
Human != Foundry. It wouldn't be hard at all to do a New Mombasa (from ODST) or New Alexandria (from Reach) setting, or a contruction site, or a Pit style military base. As long as the blocks have generic and consistent texturing we'll find uses for them. Covenant wouldn't look right without all their curvy structures, and curves aren't great for building with.
