Hi, I'd like to introduce the ForgeHub community to Dammy, a slightly-modified recreation of the map Damnation from Halo: Combat Evolved. This map was a labor of love, as it's one of my favorites because I remember spending many nights during high school at LAN parties with friends in intense CTF matches that would sometimes take an hour. The map is a bit bigger than the original, both horizontally and vertically, partly to make up for Reach's faster movement and higher jumping, and partly to keep fall damage in play in key spots on the map. I spent way too much time falling off the original map on my old Xbox just to make sure I got the spawn points down... Spawn locations are similar to the original and weapon locations are identical, with a few swaps to bring the map up-to-date: * Blue base Plasma Pistol replaced with Needle Rifle * Red base Magnum replaced with Needle Rifle * Plasma Rifles replaced with Plasma Repeaters * Assault Rifles replaced with DMRs * Ammo count in Shotguns lowered to balance the fact there are so many on the map The weapon spawns are placed identically to those found in the original on the Capture the Flag layout. I added some hard kill zones above walls to keep people from jetpacking to places they wouldn't normally be able to, so some caution is required when using the jetpack, but early playtesting says there aren't many problems with that so long as you know where you should and shouldn't be going. Depending on how well this goes over, I'm looking into making updated versions of Colossus from Halo 2 and Epitaph and Citadel from Halo 3.
this is pretty good.... i just tested it out with a bunch of friends i love remake maps lol ... definitely keep em coming...and omg please make colossus that is a map i would definitely dl and play ... there was never that many remakes of colossus in halo 3 which sorta sucks but forgeworld is definitely somewhere where a map like that can shine
There's no cover to take down by that there waterfall...its like a deathtrap and therefore no one would dare to try going out on that catwalk, you should add some roofs or tunnels on parts of it or just remove it entirely. I do like the inside areas, though. Particularly in picture 4 looks great. Haven't played halo 2 so I can't give a good judge on how well it is matched to the original, but overall I like the aesthetics.
Have you even played Damnation on Halo 1 before? This is a great remake of it. It's absolutely perfect.
Unfortunately one of the side effects of making the map larger than the original was some places that were open and exposed became really open and exposed, and the lower walkway is probably the best example of that. However, it doesn't serve much strategic purpose except in objective-based matches (as there's nothing of note down there except the Plasma Grenades), so being open isn't entirely a bad thing.
