In memory of... the worst MLG Gametypes of Halo 3

    In honor of Reach ending Halo 3's career, I have recreated the magic, the drama, the excitement, and the intensely strategic gameplay of three of the worst MLG gametypes ever in a brand new exciting 1v1 format! If you want to get the feel of these gametypes but don't have friend willing to play, just play the gametypes below for all of the same action.

    As you can see, these are faithful recreations of the same strategy but condensed down to a more efficient format.

    Why stop there? Why not extend it to our other, old favourite playlists like Lone Wolves? Where most of the starting spawns are in fact piled on top of one another, and where there are approximately 4-6 respawns dotted around the map and each player is assigned one of them at the start of the game and is doomed to spawn there and only there? Then we have the joy that is AR starts 90% of the time...

    Hey, this bitching is fun, I could see Fragtality's point if it wasn't such a constant torrent :p. Good thread, good times...

    I wanted to do more, but I was too lazy to spend more than 5 minutes setting up scenarios that capture the terribad gameplay of these three.

    Plus, most of the gametypes aren't this bad. Frag is overzealous.

    Nothing about MLG as a whole except maybe that their gametype selection method is ****ing awful (the pros basically get to pick their favorites aka the ones they're good at and keep them forever). I just really hate these three gametypes, and two of them aren't even on the circuit anymore for the reasons I tried to convey in the screenshots.

    If you had played any of these gametypes in a decent competitive game or watched them in pro gameplay, you'd understand.

    Ive done both many times i just dont get what the shield doors represent.

    Stale gameplay? Basicly The Pit's downfall are that it's only points of contact are so narrow and specific, they are incredibly easy to hold off, leading to players holding on each side and meeting at point-blank range.

    Slayer on the pit isn't terrible... but I lol'd at the rest of them. Especially the guardian one. Those are truly some of the most honest testaments to MLG games I've seen in quite a long time.

    This is so true. The reason why I stopped playing MLG was because of these three (plus like 2 more) games that these pics represent. I always somehow got stuck with those POS games and I just was like "F*** this Sh** I am playing Lone Wolves!" I know these must have been removed seeing as MLG would have been smart enough to see that flaw but I am still not playing it until reach.....and even then..... meh.


    Even though expressed in a sarcastic tone, I couldn't agree more. Ah ARs, the Bane of MLG's "Pro" existence, automatic weapons. Good times Good times. (Oh BTW the AR spawns were 95% sorry to correct your math.)

    You've watched H3 events, right?

    It isn't bad with random people running around in a playlist, with nothing more then a pixel next to their name for motivation. But when players are playing elimination styled tournaments, they don't want to lose, unless you make top 4(Or is it 6?) you are losing money.

    Pit, at a highlevel, becomes a stand-off gametype until a power-up is about to spawn. Puckett even makes jokes about this, it isn't uncommon anymore for 1 out of 8 players screens to be even moving.

    EFf that wall. That map. And Bungie for blighting us with 3 years of it. I want to meet the monkey they hired that said "I gotz a gud ideea 4 a map, a wall".

    Also, ARs and Automatic weapons aren't the "bane of MLG 'pros'", The AR was used in CE, and the SMG was used in H2(Lancer in Gears, Famas in RSV, and SMG in SR hell, even the MINIGUN in Shadowun). H3 it was just retarded simple to use.

    Edit:Now that I think about it, you really need to include Iso Bomb, Stockpile TS,High Ground TS, and Heretic Ball.

    But I can't even begin to imagine how you would do any of those.

    Reach AR destroys.

    I hope KC uses all the weapons, in H2 it was because MLG players used glitches they weren't good(Despite the learning curve involved), and in H3 it was because we didn't use the entire sandbox of unbalanced weapons. I wonder what it will be on Reach, we don't use the default spawn placement? :p.

    Double Melee is just retarded though, anyone can do it, and it will probably be gone when 1.1 rolls out.

    Why not? Because the maps of H3 were God awful unless you ran around like a chicken with your head cut off? Sounds fun.

    Missing the point, double melee has no range, AR can finally be used effectively at some range and actually rewards some skill sets like consistent aiming and controlled fire.

    Or just don't bother coming in to the MLG Discussion forum if you think like that... Just because something isn't perfect in every way, doesn't mean it's worth abandoning, it means it's worth fixing. Though it's a little late for H3 in that sense... :p.

    Pyro just **** off i only vaguely remember you because your one of the annoying bitches who left and came back when Reach was released.

    And Sanctuary would be awesome for MLG, but i feel theres a greater sense of visiblity compared to Halo 2, and it's not a good thing.

    I envy you for not noticing him for the last year or so leading up to Reach. Been 6 months at least that he feels the need to post how MLG ruins the game and somehow impacts his experience even though he makes it very clear that he doesn't play MLG.

    Also somebody on the MLG forums made two more so I'm updating the OP with his too.

    Every time I got Guardian on Halo 3, I got really excited cause it was my favorite map. I had people train me so I could get my 50, and they trained me on Guardian, so its a cool and fun map for me.
