Okay, I was thinking today about linear zombie maps and what could make them better. INSTANT RESPAWNS is what clicked into my head, but the problem is that I don't know how to do it. Instant respawns could speed up gameplay, which could make the humans and zombies run faster (90%, 110%) So if anyone knows how to do it, can you tell me?
3 seconds is the minimum. you could give your zombies a speed boost for a few seconds after respawn, that would get them there quicker.
I don't see why modding is a bad thing, can someone explain to me why it is frowned upon? (And don't says cause bungie or Forgehub said, there but be a reason)
Eh, not sure I agree with that ^. If people want instant respawn (see Octagon 1v1, a well established MLG gametype with absolutely no malicious intentions or outcome), then that's a purpose in itself since it can't be achieved through normal means. I personally have no real objection to modding per se, it's the fact that modding is so often used to exploit MM and ruin the game for others which is why it's such a taboo. It's inherently something that the game creators have no control over, so you can see why they are against promoting/allowing it (ie. not allowing modded gametypes on fileshares etc.). In those terms it makes complete sense for it to not be allowed here, and as said it opens up too many possibilities aside from the simple things people may initially want from it, the phrase 'can of worms' springs to mind. So yeah, without modding you're not gonna be able to do it, and resorting to modded gametypes seriously cuts down your potential audience since it's impossible to share using the normal methods (fileshares, FH). IH8YourGamerTag's idea about respawn traits of increased speed for a couple of seconds is pretty good though, that could work depending on your application, but you'd want to test it thoroughly to make sure players couldn't exploit that in some way.
Regardless of what you want to hear, that is the reason. Bungie does not approve of mods, they ban people for sharing mods, ForgeHub is an affiliate of Bungie. Therefore, they're not acceptable here. There are plenty of modding communities out there, go there if you think they should be supported.
Increased speed respawn traits and instant respawn is even better I know that that's the overall reasoning for it, but what is halo modding going to do that will end the world as we know it? Halo mods do nothing to anyone other then provide joy or awe. I understand that those jtag modders can damage server's and cause real problems, but who would waste it on halo, mw2 as been a pretty good magnet for them lately. Usermap mods like the ones with gametype's do no harm.
There are two issues here. One is whether modding is actually fundamentally wrong as so many people seem to assert, as far as I'm concerned this is bull. To actually judge someone based on the word 'modding' is just self righteous and petty, since (as I stated) there are plenty of uses for modding which are in no way detrimental to anyone, quite the opposite. Disapprove of modding in MM all you like, I certainly do, but when people simply see the word modding and immediately take a moral stance on it, I have little time for them. But what I think Noxiw was talking about is the simple practical argument. Bungie bans them on fileshares (again, something which I think is 100% logical and reasonable in their position), so it'd be stupid for us to allow them. By allowing modded content, we'd actually be encouraging use of fileshares for something that they are not allowed to be used for. Even if we weren't Bungie affiliated it'd be a stupid move.
It is human nature...(well as of today it seems like it is) ...to break "the law." Like smoking for example, you can't legally smoke a cigarette until you are of age which is stated by your town, city, state, country etc. But a majority of teens and even adults can admit that they have or someone they know(n) had tried smoking while still, "under age" Why? It's the "cool" thing to do these days, pure pressure, popularity, reputation, even stress (although if you were under age and smoking because of stress i think there's something obviously wrong with that reason) Mainly though people, if you are able to trace back to why laws were broken in the first place, it was because it was a "law" Curiosity is part of what drives the human race to thrive and live on... The what if's and why or why not's. Sorry to have drift off far from the main subject (modding and why such), but i think that is why modding is done and also frowned upon. Curiosity and because your just simply exploiting the $50-$60 game you bought for entertainment purposes. Sure it can be fun, but do you think the people who worked hard to make the game would encourage breaking it? While expecting to be paid back for there awesome hard work that they live off of to feed their family? No. OF course they wouldn't be happy with that and neither would you.
all mods are frowned on by microsoft and IMO that is a bad thing because some games are not very good without the mod support TF2 and portal are terrible on 360 they are successful on PC because of the mod support TF2 has almost 150 updates most of which are user created mods
