I posted this on Bnet but because responding to my post required a bit more thought than threads like "Why Halo sucks" it sunk very quickly.

I have the new Xbox 360. I got it because I'll be going to uni in a few weeks and my brother will still want an Xbox at home.
This shouldn't really make a difference to the problem, but just so you know the facts, I bought the cheaper 4GB version (I didn't fancy paying more money for just a hard drive I'm not going to use much of, especially since I know I can just use USB memory sticks if I really need to).

    So the problem:

Halo 3 doesn't recognise the new Xbox 360's internal hard drive as an actual hard drive. The Xbox 360 itself doesn't even call it a hard drive, its a "memory unit" (MU, not HDD)
This means I can't watch any films and I can't access my fileshare or Bungie Favourites without being given a message along the lines of "Go get a hard drive and stick it in".

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Also, I think this may be related to my original problem which I wanted to record (which is how I found this problem). Every one makes the same noise every time they die. Its the same "awwwwrgh" whenever a spartan is killed and its very off putting

Guess you didn't read the fine print when you bought the Xbox, huh?... Because, it would have told you it has an internal memory unit. The only thing I can recommend is buy a Harddrive. (Which I'm pretty sure you can get that type from Gamestop)

How do I know this? I work at Gamestop and so we say to our customers it comes with an internal 4gb memory unit. Anyways, how could you even call a harddrive that only has 4gb? So there's the problem and about the only thing you can do is buy that internal harddrive from somewhere.

Wow, that really doesn't say a lot for Gamestop.

So someone comes in to your shop and wants to buy the Xbox 360 4GB. The main reason being; its cheaper.
Your recommendation is to buy the Xbox 360 250 GB external to go with it.

I'm in the UK, we don't have the external HDD yet so I checked up Gamestop's prices.

    Xbox 360 250 GB: $299.99

$300? Thats a lot, I'll buy the cheaper version of the same console.

    Xbox 360 4GB: $199.99
but then you recommend I also buy the 250 GB external HDD... ok
    Xbox 360 250GB Internal Hard Drive: $129.99

So by your recommendations, a Gamestop employee, if I were to buy the cheaper console I should pay almost $30 more because of a 4GB difference. 4GB, which you say "how could you even call a harddrive that only has 4gb?"

Bloody hell, you should be getting employee of the month if that works :frustrated:

    ----

But returning to the original problem, let me be a bit more specific.

Using what I have, without going out and paying ridiculous amounts of money for a storage device, is there a way I can use Theatre mode in Halo 3 using the Xbox 360 4GB and has anyone experienced this problem?

Also, can someone with a new Xbox 360 250GB go to Sytem Settings > Memory and tell me what their internal storage is called? Is it "HDD" or "Memory Unit"?
Edit: Thanks Agamer, I understand that 4GB is less than 250GB but I don't get why I can't use it in the same way for something which isn't going to be using 4 GB of storage space to run.

Also, I'd figure I could answer your question by telling you that mine says Hard Drive.

Yeah, Gamestop isn't the most fair place in the world but you should also know we don't set the prices. Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, etc tells us what the price will be and we do just that, sell it at that price. Used products is where we get most of our money and is also why it's pretty unfair to trade in used games.

We don't tell our customers to buy the 4gb one or recommend the 250gb harddrive. Yes we tell them that it is only a 4gb internal memory unit. But, truth be told, our customer base in my area is cheap and poor and if they want the 4gb console despite the small memory unit they can have it. At 4gb of memory that is usually enough for our customers and when all they play is sports games and Grand Theft Auto we have no worries of them complaining about the memory.

I guess 250 GB is good if you're going to be using all of XBL's features, like downloading HD movies, transferring all your music, downloading lots of Arcade games, but I'm not. I have my laptop nearby for a lot of the stuff my Xbox could do besides gaming.

And I did some research. The 360 4GB isn't advertised as having a hard drive, but they also don't say it doesn't have a hard drive. Whereas the 250GB model they do clearer state it has a hard drive.
