So here's the dealio. I dropped my iPod touch 3g, it's totally ****ed up(hardcore cracked). So I try to restore it, since it's jailbroken and I'm hoping Apple could be nice and replace it, but for some reason I messed up and now when I try and turn it on it comes up with the Apple logo and then after a minute or two it pops up with the spinny wheel in front of the logo with the colored lines at the top. I've tried everything to turn it on and it isn't even recognized when I plug it in. It's pretty much impossible for me to get past the logo. So, my question is, will the Apple Geniuses figure out that my iPod is jailbroken? Me dropping it will be my excuse for it not turning on. And yes I know dropping it isn't covered, but I'm hoping I'll get lucky.
Brake it some more so it doesn't even turn on because it's pretty much ****ed then tell apple it's broke and to get you a new one. I don't think apple will be able to tell it's jail broken though if all it does is turn on then flip out.
Jailbroken iPods aren't illegal (I don't think). The stuff you do with it is illegal. It would be like arresting you for owning a gun; you haven't killed anyone yet.
Jail-breaking voids the warranty, and he wants to get it replaced free of charge. If it turns on then they can check the system files btw. And they don't cover accidents, only malfunctions, so it probably wont get replaced.
Soorry, but you aren't going to get that thing replaced for free. Jailbreaking voids any chance of that, AND it was your fault you dropped it. Take better care of your next iPod.
Lol not in australia. Jailbreaking voids warranty, therefore apple will deny it. Best bit is completely mess it up and then ask for a replacement.
Oh, dumb... In that case... So you're probably fuggin' screwed, just so you know. Just remember that this'll probably make you a lot more cautious in the future with your next iPod and not totally rape it with accident cracks and what not.
This. Even their "apple plus" (or whatever it's called) doesn't cover accidental damage, only hardware trouble, it's a clever way to make you feel like your protecting your device, when you're not. Although you can attempt to convince your parents to file it under their homeowner's insurance if you want to even try for a repair, but a whole new iPod wouldn't apply for that.
