I forge on Halo 3 often, but mostly it is just me messing around with my friends. We never have a plan, just an idea of what we want to accomplish. And occasionally i make a sub-par map... but the rest are just trash. Could someone give me some Forge tips so I can improve my skills and make some seriously awesome maps in forge world when it comes out? Thanks a lot. I like forging, but I'm not at all sure how to go about it.
It won't take much time to get good at Forge 2.0. We have all never played it so we can't give anyone tips sadly. The only advice I/we can give you is to go look at the forge 101 and 201 lessons. You don't need to look at any of the ones that involve Interlocking/Geomerging/GhostMerging/or Floating and other glitches. Because Halo Reach forge has a phased object type you may place it literally ANYWHERE so learning those gitches won't be a problem. Good luck though.
Theres no one set of guide lines to follow when making a map. Its usually different for each each forger. Some like to just go into making a map with no idea of what the map will look or play like. Others like to plan out what the will look like and how its layout will be. Some use sketchup to create the entire map and then just rebuild it from that. And so on. And you can always just decide what gametypes you like best then just make a map that suits them best. I personally take one of my ideas and just start forging it somewhere on the map. Then i just keep building from that first structure until the map is done. So its really up to you, how you go about making your maps.
ReachingPerfection.com This guy posts Reach forging lessons like once a week. They should help you with map design and planning.
Like the others have said this new forge is not going to be a problem. The only thing you have to worry about now is were you place these items. There is a number of things you can do that will help you but if your like me you don't like to sit and draw your whole map on paper or a computer. The hardest part for me is laying down that first part of your map. When you look at a blank map and you lay 1 or 2 blocks down its not really going to look like what you would like it to. So what I do to overcome that is (1) I think of what I am going to build... you can think of an idea in your mind, or think of real life scenarios and recreate that. (2) Now that you have an idea of what you want to build now its time to think of how to approach building this idea. Sometimes I like to just draw out this this part and keep toying around with ideas in till I get something I like. Onces you get started it gets easy and is no longer necessary to keep drawing. You can try Google and just look for some pictures or look at other maps on forgehub to get an idea. (3) Now that you have got your idea and your have your first part of the map going its going to go pretty smooth for this part. All you need to do is keep building and maybe take a break and think about what you want to add or get a friend in to give you some ideas. (4) Now your on the end of your map and this is the part were you just want to rush and finish it. I like to finish my map fast when I see its almost done but DO NOT rush to finish it. Trust me the outcome will be so much better if you just save every onces in awhile and go take a break. Also try building the basic structure first we will say were building a hotel. I have got the outline of the hotel done now were going to come back and build levels or the separate rooms. Now that were getting some were we can start to add things just for looks or add in your own little twist like an elevator or some secret room. Then add in weapons and spawns. Now I know all that is pretty stupid but overall forging in reach is going to be up to you and nobody can really make it amazing besides you. All I can say is when your stuck don't quit because in a game we can just save and come back later.
Yeah, I've been reading since the first one, it really helps with map design and layout and such. Head over to it, read and comment... Commenting heps it get more publicity.
I feel like a noob asking this, but in forge 2.0, how do you set attacker and defender spawns? I am trying to create infection maps and I set the humans to blue team and the undead to the red team. Will this work? And by the way, how do you set safe haven zones? I understand that I must be forging in the infection mode, but specific infection tools and spawns are not shown. Need help...thanks.
The humans are the red spawns and the zombies are blue(make sure the game type label is infection_spawn). As for the safe haven, make a hill marker and place it anywhere in forge world(preferrablu away from your map), then go to its game type label and select infection_spawn. Hope that helps.
