These two fond moments in my life could not compare to when I would started working at Funcoland, a small branch of Gamestop that made profits by allowing gamers to trade in there old games and gave them credit for those games. This store was the #1 store in district and for a sliver in time I worked there, it was here; where I would once more have another grand moment in my life. Sure, it wasn’t the best job, dealing with snotty kids and rude parents, but it was a job. It wasn’t the job, I had a grand moment with, it was because I was able to get a brand new original xbox and Halo: Combat Evolved. I rolled into the mall parking lot and got there early before the crowd, the other employee’s let me in ahead of everyone. I was supposed to go to college an hour later, but I played hooky and hooked up the brand new Xbox up to the big screen TV in the living room. I played Halo:Combat Evolved for six hours straight. I fell in love almost immediately and have been playing Halo ever since.

There was something special about Halo: Combat Evolved, perhaps even the original Xbox. Whoever thought of connecting two Xbox consoles together was a genius. My brother, our mutual friend, and my friend would play 2v2 through a console in my room and a console in my brothers room. We played for hours on end and there would always be epic tug of war battles with CTF on Blood Gulch and Sidewinder, we had countless nights of fun. Soon that wasn’t enough to fulfill our Halo crave, we installed Xbox Connect, which allowed us to connect to other users all over the world. We had fun getting our asses kicked over and over again. I’m pretty sure we played against some Halo pros, but it can’t be verified, because we where the best in our neighbor hood! Attention! Dork alert coming…. Attention please pay attention. Some time near the announcement of Halo 2 my friend and I would go to a local comic book store and beat ten year olds in a 2v2 contest every Sunday… or was it Monday… gah I can’t remember. We won countless tournaments and for our efforts we where rewarded with Halo: Combat Evolved figures.

    *Clicks read more

This is such an great read! I enjoyed how the Atari and 64 were clearly remembered. I remember when I got an Xbox.... It was like a robot entered my house through the chimney in wrapping paper.

    Thanks for the memories!
