Conquest in Reach

    I think it's safe to say that Conquest will be returning in Reach, right? But since Reach is a different game, there will probably need to be some changes.

    How much will Conquest's rules change? Will it be Spartan VS Spartan only or will there be an Elite VS Elite version? Will Sprint be the only Armor Ability, or will there be no Armor Abilities at all? What weapons will be available for Conquest maps? If we're making a large Conquest map on Forge World, can we use teleporters to go from one section of the map to another landmark (in a linear fashion still) to continue the Conquest progression? In order to cut down on time between territories, should the territories be massive or can there be more than 7 territories, or is it best to keep the maps fairly small?

    I'm not the biggest expert on Conquest, but these are some issues I think the creators of Conquest should tackle. Have you guys already started drafting a Reach version of Conquest?

    This is already in discussion, but a community thread is perfect. So far, we plan to have a Halo 3 version of Conquest remade, and then a new version of Conquest using the new Reach settings. We aren't really able to nail down anything just yet without knowing all the Territory gametype settings, but I imagine we'll be able to get rid of any current issues with the gametype. And we'll need to try out AA's within the game to know whether any of them would work or not. For example, Sprint might be good for covering ground to catch up with your team. But most AA's are out for sure (armorlock) because they hinder flow just like equipment in Halo 3 Conquest. RST and I were talking about that yesterday. I think its safe to say that teleporters are still a no no. I'm sure we'll also have a few Reach Conquest spinoffs (like elites only Conquest).

    I'd like to hear some community thoughts on this because we want it to be a complete community made gametype in Reach. Discuss!

    I'd really like to see an Elite VS Elite Conquest version, and maybe a Swords-Only version. Well maybe. But yeah, with maps that have big gaps between territories, I think Sprint should be used; however for small maps, it shouldn't be used because then it takes out all the time between territories and can make a team split up.
    The only reason I was suggesting teleporters is so that, on Forge World, you could have some of the territories be in the Gulch, then teleport, and go to the Island, but I understand how that can confuse players and break up the map's flow.

    what about a completely vertical conquest map where you need a jet pack to get up? maybe make it look something like this: [​IMG] ???? the little platforms are there so you can recharge your jetpack. Or you could just make it endless armor ability

    Vertical Conquest seems an interesting idea, But it wouldn't really feel like conquest would it?

    it probaby would if you do it right its just going up and down instead of being a long tunnel

    I like the Jetpack idea, but I think it'd just get in the way of the constant linear push. Plus, placing spawns would be pretty difficult because a misplaced spawn can give a player an unfair advantage or disadvantage if he's above or below all the action.

    But, for a non-Conquest map, go for it, Jakob!

    Well for a constant linear push feel you could use one way shield doors (however these will slow you when going down the otehr side) but going up it means that you can jetpack up and go through the door and then if your jetpack runs out you cannot fall back through the door, So a one way shield door used as a platform. Potential methinks. But the only issue here is it would be a race of who could get to the conquest point at the top of the middle. As there would be no combat at first.

    Well we can't say for sure how effective One-Way Shield Doors and other objects are going to be until we start using Forge 2.0. It's a good idea, but remember that on your descent, you the Shield Doors can't get in the way. I just think that using a Jetpack so much might not work well with Conquest's fast-paced combat. I don't want to have a hard time jetpacking from one platform to another when my team needs help at the Summit.

    that is why i suggested unlimited armor ability (wich is a custom game option) so you can just fly straight up

    Sorry to sound dumb, but what is conquest? The same concept of conquest like in BF BC 2?

    Inspired by Jacob Hunter's idea with vertical conquest I came up with this idea for a vertical conquest map in reach, which would utilize the jet pack AA. I will also note that the red boxes with flags are territories.

    Each team would spawn in their respective top territory. (Sorry, no color coding in pic.)
    The segments that protrude half way down each drop are rings around the drop:

    And then to take control of more territories you have to fight up the other team's drop, which helps them fight you off, which will hope fully keep the fight concentrated in a tug o' war over the center territory.

    Elite Conqust would be fun. Also, I have a crazy idea in the back of my mind that evade isn't elite only. You can place an evade AA on a map, what would prevent a spartan from picking it up? Evade could be ... very interesting in conquest. I think it'd be awesome.

    I love conquest. I was making a decent one and finished but then i accidentally deleted it. I am pretty sure I showed you GunnerGrunt but I deleted :(. But I can't wait to see Conquest in Reach. You could probaby make something like conquest with king of the hill or one of the new gametypes. But you could make something out of it.

    They said that a while ago, before they released any of the information for customization, plus, we've seen spartans using evade in a Vidoc. With everything their giving us, I don't see why they would exclude these options.
