I dont think there has been very much discussion on this, but if there has feel free to bomb me. I was wondering how much freedom we will be able to have forging on invasion maps. Will we be able to make, for example, an infection map on one of those ridiculously large maps or just edit it for invasion (slayer)? And also I cant see how well you will be able to edit those maps for invasion. You could place more cover and give one side or both huge, balance screwing weapon caches. It seems like (judging by the one map we were given) bungie has those maps just about how they want them, and any changes would screw up balance. What do you think?
i think we should be able to build invasion maps.. I didn't really liked invasion(notslayer) as elites, there wasn't enouch time for the elites to get that stupid bomb or w/e it was i already forgot ^^ i just thought 4 min was too short! back to the topic :S I think Bungie should really upgrade forge so we could build maps just as big as boneyard, if we had that much items, small maps could be insanely aesthetic! but I'm pretty sure Bungie will dissapoint me because I think it might cause huge lagg :S let's pray for it to happen (a)
Although I understand what you're saying, and your point about balance is valid, in Halo 3 anybody could make an unbalanced map. So I don't think Bungie will stop us from doing so in Reach, but, just like Halo 3, Bungie will test custom maps to make sure that they are balanced before they're allowed into Matchmaking.
Agreed. There would be no point for bungie to just out-right not allow any editing to particular maps. I mean, given the right objects and abilities we could use a portion of the map for a smaller 2v2 game. I highly doubt that they'll hand pick which maps you can customize.
That is not even close to what I was saying. I knew we would be able to forge on every map, I was asking about what we will be able to do with the invasion maps
My guess is that Invasion Forge, if it will exist, will be extremely limited. This is due to the fact that there are so many different triggers and balancing factors that it would take too long. All we'll probably be able to change is the gametype settings, and maybe the vehicles and weapons that spawn at certain times. As for being able to make anything on a particular map, I agree with Noxiw. We should be able to edit an Invasion map to create a smaller map of a different gametype.
Selectible spawn areas(choose where you spawn), one way shield doors, barriers that disappear after certain stage, weapon caches, capture zones, core locations, core capture zone, and of course all the immovable objects that come with the map. That's all I can think of for now.
The invasion maps will almost certainly be playable in other modes. Check out this video for example: YouTube - Halo Reach beta gameplay (Race) In it they show players doing a race on the map. I doubt Bungie would limit uses of the map for invasion and racing only. Also in the video they added barriers to steer players. Im sure these items will be available in all modes and you could place them in invasion if you want. The video does not show many other objects but Bungie is sure to provide us with other tools to drastically change the map. Hopefully a way to at least close off doors and mold the way encounters play out. Maybe limiting play to only the front half of the map or the back half. I always thought the buildings where the elites spawned were interesting but you never got to fight there. With this map we will definetly have many options. You could also easily turn invasion into a sort of D-Day. The artillary that you now can call in would be great and with the ability to unlock vehicles as time goes on, you could easily rebalance the map after an initial slaughter of the first wave in a D-Day scenario.
I hope invasion would be forgeable like any other gametype. But its unnerving as to why in bungie.net stats in reach beta that there is Invasion/Arena/Custom. Like Invasion is not part of custom games.
Bungie has stated that every gametype that ships with Reach will be created with the same tools that we get to work with in the final release. That includes Headhunter, Stockpile, etc. Whether or not that includes Invasion remains to be seen, but it's not THAT much more complex than those other gametypes. Anyone on here would certainly be able to create it, given the tools.
A popular theory is that Invasion is a mixed set of several realized objective gametypes played in order after one is completed. Invasion is first King of the hill, then, -well king of the hill again, and it ends with One Flag. So in addition to a gametype editor, there would be some sort of scenario editor. You could us this to mix and match objectives and events for some very unique game experiences. E.G. Zombies have to destroy generators before they can access the human stronghold, or having to stockpile 50% of the flags (fuel) next to your team's car before a race gametype earns you points.
Actually,it's more like territories-territories-1 flag. That would be awesome if you could mix gametypes.Like you have to carry your team's flag to a hill before you get points for being in the hill.
*Feels stupid that I thought this thread was referring to firefight forge* Anyway, I don't see any real reason why invasion forging would be limited/not possible. In fact, it could be pretty interesting. Ideas... The drawback: the spawn system (with partner spawning) is going to be very difficult to set up properly. I'll tell Devinish to start formatting a new guide...
I don't see why they wouldn't it'd be in poor taste not to or they could be dicks and make us pay for it in a dlc. It'd be like a company making a map editing mode and not giving you a blank canvas with the came. Wait a tick...
Good breakdown of what's needed. Honestly, none of these are very difficult to set up, given the right options. I can't envision not being able to forge a proper Invasion match. Again, all the other gametypes shipping with the game are created with tools the user will have access to; there's no real reason to believe Invasion will be different.
Q.I'm really curious Ferrex, please: Are we given enough freedom in Forge with dynamic objectives as to assimilate an Invasion map with proper settings? Furthermore, can we force people to be Spartans/Elites for certain teams/roles? A(by Ferrex). You should be able to completely set up (or re-arrange) an Invasion map. And Invasion itself has a bunch of sweet options to change things up too. Can't force teams, though. That's handled by the game type, not Forge.
You will probably be able to include invasion in forged maps. I can't wait to see what people do with this.
