I doubt Youtube did anything without their homework. Machinema had a special kind of channel (with ads) so there was obviously some communication.
I completely disagree with this in every shape and form imaginable. Making videos takes quite a lot of money, time, and effort. And the fact that Youtube is where most people go to watch videos it's really just wrong to remove all the work that they have accomplished from Youtube. Edit: Never mind, I think the reason this happened is because they were a "Youtube partner"... meaning they get a small amount of money per subscribers, Which making money off of a Halo video goes against Microsoft's creative content policy.
They have special ties with Bungie and Microsoft. They are the only Machinema that is able to sell merchandise and make money off of what they do. I will try and find the links again, but I looked all of this up before I decided to start making videos. Edit: Why Rooster teeth can, and we can't. http://lawofthegame.blogspot.com/2007/08/microsofts-new-content-usage-rules.html
I don't know how deserving this is of a new topic, so I'll just put it here: With youtube (for some reason) removing videos made by fans, where can one turn to make their work visible? I know machinima.com is available, but from my exploration it seems much more tedious to become a member of, find and view movies, and I am just plain irritated by the look of the site. Another drawback to machinima.com that I brought up earlier is that the loading time of any given video is comparably slower than a redundant post on youtube. Sorry to drift partly off-topic, but where can one put their work?
Reading this thread reminds me of the retarded microsoft usage rule debates on halogrid. Either way, they sucked before, but now we have permission to use halo in game sounds.
we should lock this thread seeing as the problem is long gone and there is no more need for this topic
