Okay guys. I got a simple idea that should go along with forge. Basically you send your map into a Bungie Database. Your map then will appear on a list of new maps which can be accessed directly from xbox live. You can also rate maps from 1-10. 10 being amazing and 1 being awful. Next their is a list you can look at of top rated maps for either all time, the week, or that day. There will also be a list of most downloaded maps. I really believe this will add so much to Custom Games and also will lengthen the life of the game with all the content for player constantly come out. Please tell me you feedback on this idea and see if there is anything you can add.
I was helping a friend clear a map out the other day and i thought, "Wouldn't it be nice if there was an option to select a certain item then a waypoint goes over them?" Like, if you are looking for the last nade on the map, there would be a nice waypoint over it. Or just a "Clear Item/Clear Map" function.
Ya that would be pretty useful when forging but really I'm just talking about making it easier to find other good maps from people. Not really the actual forging.
It's already being planned, to an extent. Bungie has already confirmed that you can search for all the kinds of custom content, directly through the in-game menus (along with on Bungie.net). Categories like Funny, Owned, and Awesome are examples of different tags that you can search for. I don't know about search filters like highest rated of the week and such, but you can rate them, on a scale of 1-10, in-game; again, just like on Bungie.net.
Bungie basically plans to bring an improved version of Bungie.net down to the xbox. No need to tell them how to do what they are already doing. Remember, it's Bungie.
But still, they arent planning 3D object import? are they? if so, EPIC! xD And not really, people will still post on forgehub, its a community!
3D object import? Care to explain? And no, it won't void Forgehub's purpose. Forgehub is not about being a resource for maps to download.
As in, people can make 3d objects on the computer (usually have .3ds or .obj file extension) and load them into the game as map objects.
Well if you're going to do that you might as well use your 3D program to just model the entire map! If you want to do that then you're using the wrong gaming system, check out some PC games. There are some which are far more customizable/modifiable than anything on a console will ever be. Besides, that would be a feature that only a few people could use, and fewer that could use it well. And the Bungie Database idea. What you're suggesting sounds just like what is in place now or what they have already confirmed will happen for Reach.
Object importing is downright NOT an option. It would map map sizes much too large, and keeping the game in a running state would be impossible. People inexperienced in developing for games not taking into account poly counts or texture and object sizes would fry their Xbox's. It's impossible, don't get your hopes up, children. Do never get your hopes up for ANYTHING.
Most wanted Forge features: 1. Undo(infinite amount) 2. Instant Respawn for a specific item and not for the other of the same object 3. Auto-float 4. Invisible barrier creating 5. Ability to pick up an item(such as weapons) in forge mode without it being on its spawn point 6. Graphic importation(Signs and such) 7. Map community(doesn't have to be on Bungie Favorites to be found; don't have to search all over Bungie.net.) 8. Item relations(such as a connection between the items in traps and tools without it getting lost.) 9. Gravity per area(certain amount of gravity for a certain area.) 10. Water. 11. Texture changing 12. Hiding an item(making an item invisible and quiet. This would help for button operated doors and such.) 13. Weather Conditions 14. Night and Day(evening, afternoon, etc.) 15. Adjustable FX(Blurry level, color level, darkness level, Color temp, etc) 16. Auto-kill on touch 17. Breakable but auto kill invisible barriers 18. Classes allowed or class creation 19. After certain conditions are met, an action triggers(not like the ones we can do now.) 20. Texture Edging and sharpening --- Sorry to doublepost but if you could, than anyone could make an awesome map, which means it wouldnt be as much of an accomplishment and not as special of a talent.
