That makes a lot of sense, and I kind of think meat should be significantly more expensive. I think non-Jewish people get too hung up on the whole "cloven hoof" thing to take the perfectly sensible standards of kosher preparation seriously. Damn shame, I say. The same can be said of Islam, people get too hung up on the "predators are unclean because they consume blood" thing to take the humane standards of halal seriously. There's common sense truth to be glimpsed in these "silly" religious teachings.
I don't believe in silly preached unpractical teachings or religions. However, i am willing to accept the simple wisdoms of our ancestors, placed into books etc. For instance, take the bible. If you read it literally, its nonsense. Don't waste your time. However, what it does present, is universal truths regarding our nature, placed into poems and stories in order to be preserved for future generations. Its just that the meaning of these stories has largely been lost upon us. I agree with the kosher idea. Meat should be eaten as a delicacy as it gives way too many calories and far too much cholesterol to be healthy. Delicacies are expensive. Kosher meat is expensive. End of story. Its just that simple. The idea of kosher meat, or not really the idea, but the practice of treating animals well is a good one. Now the only issue is to get people to do what is right, not what is easy and infinitely more enjoyable.
Even after those videos, I eat meat. Oh My Gawd meat is crazily good. I respect vegans and their choice, but.. Come on, I love a good rack of BBQ ribs or a big juicy streak with A1 Steak Sawce!
This thread isn't about dining preference, it's whether it's right or not. Whatever you eat is great, but either contribute to the thread or just don't post.
