What do you guys think about that: Map Updates In Halo 3, when you update a Map, you have to remove it from your fileshare, change it, upload it again, tell everyone that you changed something and so on ... Would't it be great to have some kind of 'Map Update Function' in Reach. For example: You forge a Map, lots of people dwnload it, but you want to change something after 4 weeks, You change it and it plays even better, now, instead of removing it and going to all the stuff you had to do in H3, you would be able to Update your Map. It stays in your Fileshare, you keep the downloads and the important thing: When someone plays the old version of your Map, he gets a message that the there is a newer version of the Map and if he wants to update it. Everyone is happy, everyone plays the newest version of your Map. Weapon Sets or: Different Map Versions I think Oasis had this problem. There were several Versions of the Map out there: MLG Oasis, Oasis Snipers, Regular Oasis and so on (might not be true, but you get what I mean) Instead of having to post several Versions of your Map, it would be great if you could save the versions of your Map, but it counts as one version. When you choose a custom Map on Sandbox, you choose Sandbox out of the Mappool, then you see all your Maps and if you choose the custom Map, the next Menu opens and you Choose your Map variety. Kind of confusing, but I hope you understand what I mean. If you don't understand anything, tell me, I will clear things up as good as I can. Do you think these Suggestions are realizable for Bungie and worth posting on BNet?
I would be very happy for both of those to be added, and you might aswell post them on Bungie.net, as far as I can see you have nothing to lose for making the suggestions. P.S. be sure to send me a link to the B.net thread if u make one
Given what I've seen on B.net, you don't need to ask if something is worthwhile. This idea is a lot better than what goes on there anyways..
It sounds "Realizable", and I think that it is a great idea. The only problem is that we have no idea how it can or even if it can be realized. Yes, Post this on B.net (And post the link here).
The one problem I see is the map update idea. What if an older version was better? You update it and the new version isn't quite up to standards then how do you get back to the older one? Its kind of like deleting an object on a map and then accidently saving it.
I love the idea, I think the most feasible way to do this would not to actually update the map, but to add the new map to a map tree, eg.. BLAH - Default blah - MLG BLAH ~ 10/2/11 - BLAH SNIPERS ~ 28/1/11 - BLAH V2 ~ 24/1/11 - BLAH V1 ~ 15/1/11 So you could set the default for the map, so when people click it they load the default map, but if they press something like right on the d-pad it will allow them to play older versions or different map versions for different gametypes etc.
There we go.. much easier and better organized even. LD, you should update your B.net post with this.
I love this idea, my only suggestion to another thing would be this. Have you ever got tired of loading a map and only seeing the gay default sandbox picture? Well i have, i remember in halo 2 modding community how every map came with a main menu picture, meaning when you played 343 Delta it was a picture of Lockout but all foggy etc, same goes for all the maps made back then. My suggestion is this, have the ability to set a default map picture (like farcry) so when you go to you Main List you can see the map sandbox, but as you scroll down have custom pictures of all the maps, cause if your like me sometimes you forget what maps you have, and having the same picture for all of them gets confusing as i am horrible with names.
OR when you press "X" on a weapon or scenery you can put options for Slayer, Oddball, Juggernaut, VIP, Assault, Capture the Flag, Infection, King of the Hill and Territories to appear only on.
Weapon sets are just stupid because in Halo 3 you can set only BRs and Carbines, or only Dual-wieldables, or even no power weapons to spawn on the map. MLG was the only thing that really required a special map. In Halo Reach, however, many of the weapons have been removed so there is not so much point for weapon sets as I believe most non-MLG weapons have been removed. Symmetrical/Asymmetrical will still remain an option so only a single map is needed for playing the two versions of one gametype (ex. 2-Flag and 1-Flag). As for fileshare, it is more of a place for finished products to showcase rather than someplace to dump some random junk. What bungie needs more than this is to allow popular files to stay on Bungie.net to prevent broken links and such problems. Notice that the requirements for pictures and a description in the competitive maps section filter out many of the worst maps that people do not even care about enough to take the time to post. Bungie should learn from this.
