NETWORK TEST 1 (GENERATOR DEFENSE) Overlook Here, please post your impressions of Generator Defense on Overlook. Please, nothing off topic, no rage at the gametype or map, just what you liked, what you didn't like, and what you think should be changed. My impressions: Lag aside, this is my favorite thing to play in the Beta. The map is the most beautiful map I have ever seen in the entire Halo series (even more than Campaign), and I like the Longsword weapon drops, the challenge of defending, and the satisfaction at blowing the crap out of the generators as Elites. Oh, and I like getting splattered by the weapon drops. I don't like the lag (even though Bungie is testing out their network aspects), I don't like how useless the Elites are attacking Bravo Generator because the Spartan's Shotguns dominate. And I really don't like the length of the generator cooldown period. It should be longer. Bungie should stop network testing in the final game, they should make the inner Bravo Generator room more wide-open, and they should lengthen the generator cooldown period. Now, what do you guys have to say?
Loved the gametype and map. The graphics were actually close to Call of Duty which really surprised me. Without the epic LAG, the entire thing played quite well. Although the player count favors the elites for capturing A and C, the close quarters at B favor the spartans, so it is balanced overall. I was really surprised by how well it played.
...? of course they'll stop network testing in the final game... other than that, i agree the cooldown should be longer. but i think that B is fine the way it is.
For all of you people that think it's too hard... Try distracting them at A to pull their attention, then take out b first! If you always get stuck trying to get that last one, take it out first. If they're holding you at B and you still can't take it start taking out C or A, and that'll spread out their numbers as they try to save their asses. oh, and Needlers can take out generators legitimately faster than anything else in the game. Even a 'splaser.
I love network test 1. It is Bungie's greatest gametype ever. I have one problem though: generator lockdown times. Way too long.
Most professional sounding poll ever. "I have neutral feelings about this map and gametype" sounds like a freakin' survey. Map looked great, I can't say about the gametype because I only played one game because the lag was so bad it wasn't worth it. Choosing your spawn point is super important.
B is LAG fine how it is. Although there needs to be more LAG lines of sight to it. You can currently see in the front door while LAGGING on the stable roof directly outside, but there needs to be another LAG place you can get a direct LOS to it.
pretty sure lag shouldnt factor into the equation. Its a test for code in the background... it has nothing to do with the game or map itself. Excellent gametype, and a very straight forward and well designed map.
This isn't too much of a major problem, but maybe because it's never happened to me before. It is extremely easy to camp spawns. Of course, they can just spawn in other places but half the people who play anyway don't have the intellect to realize that they can spawn somewhere else, so they keep spawning and getting killed by my shotty.
The morons who do not know to press up on D-pad deserve to get spawn killed. The game depends a little too much on the teams having coordination. With two friends on my team it was like a walk in the park, got some kills, blew some stuff up, and had a good time. Playing with two random people who did not have mikes: got owned.
It seems like it would be fun but everything about the netcode just makes it feel like you're running in glue. Jumping is harder, running is harder, close quarters battle is harder, sniping is harder. Basically the only thing that's useful is the damn turret. Aside from that it's a fun idea for a gametype, though I don't see why it needs such a special netcode. I only got a chance to play it a few times but I wasn't that impressed. I'd like to play overlook on something else to get a better feel for it.
They're testing different netcode(campaign/firefight maybe) and seeing how it plays out when it's strained (6 people, incredible amount of movable objects, ect) Hence the name, Network Test 1 ______ Lag aside, I'm actually surprised at how smoothly the game runs sometimes. If you've seen the videos of people breaking the map, it's enormous. Seriously people, it's friggin massive. Add to that the fact the map is still absolutely gorgeous, probably the most beautiful one I've seen in a Halo game. I think it is honestly fine the way it is right now gameplay wise, as long as your team isn't stupid and goes for B last, generator defense is fairly easy to win. Actually, one thing should be fixed. While the generator lock time is fine, it's the time in between the lock recharge that needs to be lengthened. Weapon drops are a nice touch too. Sniper, sword and needler are the 3 best weapons to use against generators IMO. Hopefully this will be in the final game, a big team Generator Defense game would be sick. EDIT: Not directly related to generator defense, but turrets look badass. From third person view in a game, it looks kind of odd because it seems like a sideways H3 turret. But in theatre... *drools
I just thought of this. Think about it: -Network test -Rumors of AI -Only 6 players -Longsword -Weapon drops -Giant map without death barriers -"leaving battlefield" This is not a network test. This is campaign.
well it is part of a campaign map. so how about it's a campaign network test then? Also, rumors of AI? what?
Overlook is the first mission of the campaign, and I dont remember where I saw it, but i believe it was confirmed.
I played my first game on this last night.... it was alright... I specifically found it boring... I don't know about you guys... Actually after playing the beta after not playing since the day that invasion thing came out, I found myself bored with the entire beta... I won't even bother playing tomorrow, I'll wait till September...
I lent my friend the disk because my other friend threw it out. I'm gonna try and get it back from him so I can try this out.
Overlook is a great map but the shot guns are overPowered at bravo. The base just needs to be a bit bigger. It has a lot of entrances so it is sometimes possible to sneak up on them and slit their throught
