These are two maps I did in forge with Foundry (go figure). The first I think has potential to be a near-classic - a lot of thought went into the design to make it play like classic Halo maps. The second is just a fun throwaway.

    Fractured:

A multi-level, two base map with an intentionally similar feel to Chill Out, Lockout, and Damnation (three of my favorite Halo maps). It has the multiple levels, the different-sized rooms, the hallways and ramps, and the solid weapon balance - plus it's the perfect medium size for intense 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 games.

    The Autoshop:

A two base setup where the bases are an auto repair garage and a parts storage warehouse, right next to each other but separated by a huge wall. There are several ways to get between the bases, and enough scenery to provide cover and make for an interesting playing experience. Plus, as you'd expect from the map idea, this one involves a few vehicles - though it may get hairy driving them around much.

Both of these are configured for any gametype - my weekly LAN game likes to mix it up a lot so I didn't have anything specific in mind when I designed these. I like any map with two bases and a little asymmetry to it (but not so much that you can't play a standard two objective game).

I can't tell about the second one, but I really like the first one. The picture you put up looks like it's a ton of fun (and well-designed).

I strongly advise you get about five more pictures for each map, make 'em bigger, and you'll get tons of attention. I'll queue!

Suggestion taken! I'm just going to edit the original post to include more & bigger pics.

Yes, yes, YES! The first map looks even more amazing, and now I want to play the second one, too.

Way to follow advice! I can already tell that your stay here will be enjoyable for everyone. =D

Thanks man, I'm glad you like the screens.  On the first map I had a hard time getting angles that demonstrate what the map is like - its so fragmented and closed off (with a lot of floor-to-ceiling walls) that no one part of it really gets the idea across, except for that middle area with the ramps.  So that's what I took the most screenshots of.  The second one was easier to shoot, which is a function of it being (frankly) a less interesting map.  But hopefully it will still entertain.

Anyway, I'm soon going to start on a new one, but I'd love any feedback on either of these.  I've already done some tweaking on Fractured after our last LAN game that hopefully improved it a little bit.

Just curious. I see a screenshot on the first one that looks oddly enough like the attic on Depot. Did you happen to borrow it? I won't be mad if you did, it really is all right.

By the looks of both screenshots (this one and Depot's) it looks like Depot's attic's floor looks higher up against the wall. Can't exactly tell though, Depot's picture doesn't have a close shot of that wall.

Well, considering he is new it seems unlikely he would copy an attic (which would seem to be hard to replicate for a different structure) unless he is just new to posting. He seems a decent enough guy that if he did copy it he would note it in the OP.

Wow dude, at first I was gonna correct you from "The New Guy" to "A New Guy" but, I think you deserve "The New Guy" :p. Anyways, amazing neatness for these being your first 2 posted maps. Although on that M shaped ramp on the second one, I'm not sure but it might have been easier to use bridges... easier to drive over.

They are very similar for sure, but I can honestly say I didn't borrow it. I haven't been on this forum before today actually - someone on the Bungie forum just referred me to it. I was just trying to build an upper-level base to start this map and the upside-down bridges seemed like a natural choice for a smooth floor - & I used that corner because with the fan and the red lighting I figured it would be easy to distinguish from the other areas of the map.

Eventually I think we'll see a lot of map ideas that look a lot like each other. It's a natural result of having limited building materials and everyone using Foundry as their template map.

By the way, could you give me a link to Depot? I like that screen and I'd really like to check out the whole map.

Re: Two maps from the new guy - feedback wanted

Ha, thanks man. I did do a previous map but didn't feel like posting it here - it's sloppier and the ideas of it weren't fully developed. It's still in my fileshare though, I think.

The m-shaped ramp, do you mean the one going down from the fencebox with the hog on it? That is basically to provide easy access for a player on foot to the hog - I don't expect people to drive on it much. However, you can actually go up and down it in the hog too. Initially it was a bridge, but it was creating spatial issues by being longer than the wall and bumping up against the grav lift. Ultimately my choice was to redesign the warehouse area or switch to a wall piece, so I went with the latter.

Seems logical, I couldn't see entirely what was going on from the angle of the screenshot though.

Oh, I see what you mean now! Yeah it does look like there are more ramps behind that front wall. The other screenshot of that area (with the hog in the foreground) shows it just a little bit from the side angle - it's actually just a double wall leaning against a fencebox, with that hog sitting on top of it.

Thanks man, any feedback is welcome.

I am working on a new map now which has a lot of promise - will be posted in a day or two, I imagine.
