I have begun ( not sure?) a new map named Spirus. This map is on the crypt of Sandbox. First I have drawn this map wuth a peace of paper. It is made of 3 floors. Secondly I have design it with photofiltre Then I have started the map with google sketchup. For the moment there is just the begining of the stair I hope you to help or advise me to build a great map.
This looks really nice but very hard to forge! Be careful when building all those curves on the map for it not to be to bumpy.
Yeah I've tried to design maps with a spiral, but really it's impossible to achieve a smooth one. You end up either making simply a slanted circle or a bumpy one where you'd either have to jump up it or walk on the very edge that's actually able to be walked up. You can't turn when there's a grade without that happening when you're just using rectangles for the spiral's components. I agree in theory that the spiral design would be pretty darn cool and probably fun to play on, but in practice it doesn't work out. Kinda compromises the central theme of this map, but maybe you'll find a way around it. The closest thing to it would be a continuous ramp but with switchbacks so you can still walk up it. However, that will replace the smooth, circular essence of the map with strict blockiness that we've seen all too many times before. Whatever you decide to do with this, I wish you the best.
I was surprised to see the sketch-up pictures because the ones above them look confusing. And then when I actually saw the sketch-up pictures I was amazed. I hope the rest of the map comes out as cool.....
You just now doing more drawings after 4 weeks? When can we expect this to be done? It looks like it will be good.
I am sorry to be so slow, but I'm in a period of Exam, but whan they would be done, I will do this map faster.
Stairs may look nice, but theyre a complete pain in the arse in game. Just think.. A milimeter bump causes a spartan to jump momentarily which can mess up strafing.. Players are gonna have to jump all the way up that spiral staircase which will leave them kinda vulnerable.. I'd recommend changing it to ramps.
Agreed on that. Making a map that features any kind of staircase is next to impossible if you want any hope of decent gameplay. And it IS theoretically possible to make a spiral out of rectangles, but the amount of forging prowess it would require is something I'm not sure any human actually has. I hope you can prove me wrong though, good luck!
Actually those ramps arent bumpy at all... ive experimented with that same concept and so have other people, its not bumpy. BTW, the maps layout looks nice
Looks great, but Ive got a secret. Putting your name in the geometry is one of the lamest things Ive seen.

I bet he did too. But he obviously named himself after the town, and by his name being a reference to Voi any reference he makes to his name, by the law of syllogism, must also be a reference to the town. So, I win either way. -But putting it in his map is lame-
My Gamertag come from Tsavo Higway (And doesn't come from the multiplayer map). But I'd like to make an EE by including "Voi" in my map. Sketchup Design is progressing, but any item a place make me septic about the Forge that will be very hard. But I do that in the objective of proving that French arn't bad Forgers
Hot damn, i see how those stairs are gonna work now! I take back what i said about them being sloppy, your idea there is actually quiet brilliant. I cant wait for you to get this out for us to start playing and stuff, because it looks like its going to be really cool (aesthetically at least). As usualy, gameplay will have to wait till its done.
