Has any information been released about the direction of the Halo Reach soundtrack? I'm quite curious because i thought Halo 2's was awesome, but i didn't really like the direction taken with Halo 3 (overly dramatic and orchestraic) or ODST (a bit contrapuntal). All of the tracks are on Youtube if anyone wants to have a look and perhaps provide their favourites?

My personal favorite of the trilogy is the Halo 3 OST because it was orchestraic and just felt all around epic which fit in very well with the campaign. From the couple pieces of music we've seen so far (e.g in the trailers, ViDocs) it seems like Halo Reach will be going in the same direction as well which I'm definitely looking forward to.

Here's the Halo Reach music/soundtracks page so far.

I never really got into the Halo 2 campaign enough to really enjoy the music, but I really wasn't a fan of the ODST OST. There were a few notable songs here and there but other than that, the music never really appealed to me.

ODST was by far my favorite altogether. Even just loading the game up felt epic.

Halo 1's was very good, Halo 2's has so far been my favorite, easily. It seemed in Halo 3 they took everything a step back, it seemed a lot more mild in comparison to H2. ODST was definitely nice, and from the two pieces that I've heard from Reach thus far on the Bungie page Rifte linked, they're definitely taking a step out and trying something new. I'm waiting to hear the rest.

Bungie has to hold SOME details to tide people over from the beta until the fall don't they?

Marty always cooks something good up..... Mr Clean Mr Clean! Jk. Reach sounds like halo 3's music, focused on epic orchestras. That's how I interpreted the VGA trailer.

I agree that Halo 2's soundtrack was the best. I liked both of Halo 1 and 3's also but ODST was OK.

Wasn't done by Bungie but I thought the Halo Wars soundtrack was pretty good

It really seems like music in reach is focussing around epic and a little distorted percussion. Also, it appears they have some pretty sweet electronic tracks as well (End of most recent podcast). Marty has always had a way with making things work with things that may look initially incompatible, like having a generally jazzy, orchestral synthesized and overall calm (Film noir) soundtrack for an fps like ODST.
Here's a quote from the wiki
Obviously we haven't heard every track in the game, and most of what can be heard is intended to reflect the epic and action-packed aspects of Reach (Multiplayer).
All I know is that given what we've heard already, Marty will definitely out do himself once again.

I'm hoping the 'Spawning on your Bro Co-op Style' song makes it in the game as an easter egg somewhere. :)
