I think Halo 3 is already a classic.
The graphics are clearly dated, it doesn't even run in HD.
The models are clearly not as high quality as more recent games.

Not that I'm saying it's ugly. It's still a gorgeous game. But evidently dated. xD
The matchmaking system seems old to me as well. Looking through MW2's eyes at least.
I think having to find a new match after every match is unnecessary and annoying.
Also not being able to drop in and out of a match in progress is an old, dated, system as well.

In my mind, Halo 3 has been a classic for some time now.

Personally, I'm only just now seeing Halo 2 as a classic (maybe from the recent shutdown?). I think just because the next game in a series comes out, the last one becomes a classic. Not saying that's the only reason but I just think its a bit soon. To me, 5 years is the minimum length of time it takes to become a classic, if it will be one. I'm not sure Halo 3 will be a classic. It feels more like and upgrade from 2 which was much more revolutionary. It will definitely be note worth, but a classic, I don't think so.
