Hey, I am interested in starting my own clothing line... Obviously I am only 18 so it would probably be really hard for it to actually happen but I want to take it somewhat seriously just to see what happens. I need a program that I can use to design clothing items like shirts, pants, etc... I don't really use graphics software much, but I learn things pretty fast so I think I would be fine with anything. I am just wondering what program you guys think would be the best for designing my clothing line. I have a few names in mind for my brand name... If anyone has any ideas as to that as well that would be awesome. I am looking to make a style close to DC, Hurley, Billabong, and stores like that.
I doubt there's any specific software that's used for clothe designing. Just get any other graphic software that's decent like GIMP (free) or Photoshop (better but $600). There's plenty of clothe designing websites I've seen that allow you to upload images from your computer to place on the merch; so it's just a matter of making the design.
If you search "clothes design software" on google it comes up with some software programs. They just don't seem to appeal to me. I was hoping maybe like Sketchup or something would work for this... Like I said, I never really use graphics software so I am pretty clueless as to what I should use. Thanks for the ideas though!
GIMP is free, but if you can afford it, go with Illustrator. There isn't a software JUST for t-shirts, but there are t-shirt templates that allow you to customize the T-shirt. I don't know about jeans though. I don't think there is a template for that.
Yea illustator is what you'll use, but it's good to have photoshop/gimp too for final touchups. All graphic designs should be vectors, which is why you should use it.
Thanks for all the help guys! Okay, so I need illustrator. Does anyone think they could possibly find a torrent or something for me? I know I could do it, but I always end up with a virus because I don't know the right one to choose... or at least a good torrent site I could use. I would really appreciate it! EDIT: I might have found one. I'll let you guys know...
Ill PM you some links. Illustrator to design your designs. The reason you need illustrator is because it is designed to make vector images. Vector is a type of file which can be resized with no loss of quality AT ALL. Once you have designed your graphics in illustrator, you can then bring it over to photoshop or any other compatible software and then resize it onto the shirts size. If you need any help with illustrator then just let me know because I have just started it myself so I can explain it quite easily for you. Ill PM you some links now..
Alright! Thank you so much! I am going to go download this stuff on my computer... (Im on my laptop right now) I'll message you if I have any questions! Thanks again!
I've actually seen software where you type words in and it will print onto the shirt with a special machine. I don't know if it's what you're looking for though. http://www.novadevelopment.com/software/tshirt-factory-deluxe-129022?meta=software&cat=print-creativity-software⊂=desktop-publishing-software
Thats pretty cool actually ptto911. I would probably be designing my own things so i don't know how much that would benefit me. Thanks!
Selling work for personal profit made in pirated software with or without a business license is a very bad idea in general, encase you hadn't considered that.
Lol, what? You think that people who like your designs ask "Oh, by the way, can I just check to see if you have a legal version of Photoshop?" Rofl. They don't care, and the only way they could tell is if they actually went on your computer and checked your application files. And then, if you had used a keygen on the program, then there would be no way for them to tell.
Yeah...and as of right now I am not sending my designs to any companies lol. Im just an average kid looking to see what he can do with an idea. So, anyone have any ideas for a brand name? I've narrowed my ideas down to four.. Just don't want to release them yet.
Rape Gear. But i'm with loshon on this one. Be wary of how far you go with this. Textured Sun makes the odd t-shirt (for me HA) but he has 'paid for' the full Photoshop Master Suite and all other associated software.
Let me say it again: No one cares (besides Adobe) and no one will be able to tell. There is not watermark on your images saying 'THIS IS PIRATED'.
While that is certainly true, making an entire clothing brand line and selling it for personal profit using illegal software without a license (business or otherwise) to do so is illegal. And while most people won't care, it's always better safe than sorry, right? Just puttin' it out there.
