Regeneration Slayer (Gametype)

    I've just been thinking of kinda a new twist in slayer. The gametype it will be used in will be King of the Hill!

    I'm not at home to see if i can set this up yet, but the basic idea will be, players will earn 1 point for every kill, players will earn 10 points for every second in the hill. First to 250 points wins. Time set to 15 minutes

    Now here's the catch, all players start with 0% shields. So its basically swat, except any body shot counts a kill. When you kill a player, you leach their life, earning you a fragment of your shields back. Once killing enough players, you should reach a required amount of shields that you can determine is enough to hold the hill. Once entering the hill, you earn you 10 points a second. However, whilst in the hill, your shields will deplete at a rate of 10%. So the longer you're in the hill, the quicker you'll die.

    This gametype will try to inspire guerilla warfare, Of attacking, retreating, holding, retreating and repeating.

    The hills MUST be circular, and MUST NOT be over radius of 1.0.

    This is because the extreme advantage of holding the hill for 1 second grants the user a score = to 10 kills, a smaller hill, means the player is easier to locate.

    All speed+damage modifiers remain the same. Primary weapon is yet to be established.

    That is actually an interesting concept. The only problem is that I don't think having decaying shields will kill you, it will only drop your shields, and then stop there. However, it would be interesting if you could still make it work.

    Well the idea is its not supposed to kill you, only weaken you.

    Initially, i want this to be FFA, of 5+ players. (Something possibly for action sack) and the players need to keep on their toes so they dont get killed and build up enough shields to take the hill, however, the sly players who dont seem to be doing well at getting kills can also gain points by taking the hill, the amount of points they get, will be determined on how well the actual slayers are keeping tabs on the hill.

    This is pretty interesting. Team games would be quite tactical (in my mind anyway) and would encourage teamwork to protect someone in the hill.

    I say go for it.

    Problems:
    - Cant start with 0% shields. Its either "shields on (1x, 2x, 3x, 4x overshield)" or "shields disabled".
    - 10% decay/regen is like 1px of your health bar. 25% is better but also isn't excessive (takes about 10 seconds to lose all shields with 25% decay).

    The only reason this isn't gonna work is because of the first problem. Ill continue testing different settings to see if I can get it similar to what you proposed. Im not making any promises though.

    ummm..."Shields Off" is 0% shields

    yes but if you turn shields off then you cant ever get any shields evar

    The closest I have is you spawn with shields, 10% shield increase from kills, -25% decay in hill and no regeneration.

    Yeah hopefully. tomorrow I might put the gametype I setup in my fileshare to see if its what steve thought up. If it is then we can test it.

    I actually had quite a similar idea to this.. There is some big differences which I won't go into and was quite a bit more complicated but the basis was much the same. I was trying to get two main concepts when i built my gametype; 1) Team work is crucial, and 2) It isn'r always better to be in the hill.

    Nevertheless I would quite like to see how yours turns out too, they may play very differently :).
    My first 3 maps for it are about 50% finished and the gametype is fully set up, subject to some final tweaking.

    I hate to ruin your fun but this cannot work. If it starts out like swat with leech than nothing will happen. If you have no shields you cant get any from killing someone with out any.

    i think what he meant is that when your in the hill and ur health has decayed its one shot to the head to kill, just like swat

    Wow.. this got some interest since i've been away.

    Just tweaking some stuff now to see if i can get a variant working.

    Regarding the 0% shield leeching, you still receive a minor regeneration, as it counts hp as shield leech (from what i've got on previous games it has anyway)

    EDIT:

    Well after looking through settings i had everything solved except what luckiesnipes pointed out was correct,

    The leech doesnt effect HP like i thought, so you cant slowly build up HP from starting with 0% shields (That was initially the hard part to figure out)

    I currently have the settings on:
    Players start with 4x Overshields so the maximum recharge is as high as possible, the players will be killed at start which enable the respawn settings, which disables the shields for 3 seconds, on shield return, the shields are completely depleted. All damage as of now is normal, Leech is 100%. All damage given is received back as a health kit :)
    Hill points set at 5, Kill Points = 1 Score limit = 100

    However, its starting the health stuff which seems to be posing a problem.

    If i have everyone killed on the initial start, i need some way of people gaining health. Which the only way is by shooting someone with shields.
    So either, i put a CPU on the match, which reveals unbelievably good perks allowing the user to dominate whilst people try to shoot the guy to poach some shields... or flip the objectives of the game around?

    This could mean, every second in the hill, loses you 1 point, every kill gains you 5. Outside the hill, you lose shields at 10% decay, and earn shields at 10% leech.
    The hill is the recharge station, which revives your shields at 200% faster?

    I really do prefer the original way though. So if anyone can figure this pickle out it'd be great!

    Just thought of something!!!!
    Hours of enjoyment from Laser Quest has paid off!
    The custom power ups can be "Recharge Stations" where player must reach the CPU (Built into a wall) and collect the power up to receive the health bonus, They can then use that shield to gain some hill time, or clear players out then get free hill time.

    CPU Traits will be everything the same as base player traits except shields will be normal shields, Duration will be as long as possible.
    This will require players then to control specific map points as well as the hill.

    Regeneration Slayer v1.0 is now in my fileshare under RS1.

    This gametype will require custom made maps. If anyone wishes to submit a map for Regeneration slayer i'll start constructing guidelines that should do both the map and the gametype justice.
