Hello. New to this site, I wanted to post this thread for several reasons. 1. to get a feel for this site 2. to get some some questions answered 3. to put out some ideas for the community to judge Now that I have that out of the way. has anyone considered creating a subsection for the halo forge forum titled "requests and projects"? The premise behind this section is forgers that want help on a project or anyone who wants to make a request to help or request a pro forger to make an idea for a map you pitch. If by some minuet margin this Idea gets picked up, could you please contact me so I can help in crafting of said section. I was considering including a section on putting out your forge project idea and including status updates on the map but I'm sure a similar sub-section already exists. If all of this already exists could you kindly point me in the right direction? If no plans would be made for this section and this already doesn't exist, I figured I could pitch my idea for a map here and hopefully someone could pick it up. The only reason I wouldn't build upon my idea myself is I'm terribly lousy at forging which would mean I would take ages to get anything done properly. I plan on following up with my pitch after a few messages to this thread depending upon results. Also if I happen to be breaking any rules could you kindly point me to the rules section? Thank you for your time.
First off, welcome to the site. There was a similar suggestion to yours earlier today, in the Customer Service section. I didn't post there, but I'll voice my opinion here. I feel that if there was any forum/subforum/category of the site that was very specific about it's topics, it would not do well in terms of traffic. Think about the Halo Forge discussion, for instance. There are multiple types of topics to discuss there, including a very trendy type, Map Previews. That trend led to a prefix added to the site, but that's not the point I'm making. Forge Discussion has many different things to talk about, which can't exactly be said for the type of subforum you're suggesting. If someone wants to request a person to help make a map, a thread is usually made in Forge discussion. You didn't break any rules, but here's a link, just for future reference.
Alright, so from my understanding If I wanted to I could at any point in time post a thread in the Halo forge discussion section that could be a request or any thing of the sort that I mentioned. That is good to know. The reason I ask is because I don't want to be stepping on any toes when I plan to post threads and comments in the future.
Yeah, you can just make a request thread. Mind you, it's not like we have a community just jumping at the chance to help out whenever they possibly can, but I'm sure Forgehub will help in someway.
I don't expect any sort of actual help genuine if I were to post such a thread. While a forger would be gracious enough to take me up on an offer I don't expect anything to get done any time soon which is what I'm shooting for. Maybe I have my foot in my mouth when I say that but I have no real Idea as to how long a quality forge map with advanced forging technique and careful crafting takes.
It depends really on what your asking on from other members. If you were wanting someones idea to forge, most forgers probably wouldnt give you much to go on, however, there are a few Map Adoption threads floating around in the Forge discussion forum too. Best thing to do is post the topic in where you believe is the most suitable and if your unsure message a moderator and request them check the thread over incase it is posted in the wrong section or isnt allowed.
Alright well I guess I'll pitch my idea here for a map here and hopefully someone will pick it up. The only thing they have to say when they mentioned who made it is "concept by:blah blah blah".as far as the actual pitch I have nothing really concrete enough to actually post here. I had a better idea of the map when I made this thread but at this moment I can't for the life of me remember the important details.
Right if its a map adoption you want to put up (where you have an idea and you want someone else to forge it) you'll most likely want to draw a picture. Its very hard to describe what you want a map to look like and have someone else actually forge it. I'd suggest looking across the forums for help with a program called Sketchup. You can design your maps in these programs and have someone else forge them from your intial design
Alright Now I have an idea of the map, two in fact. 1. A tower in the skybubble. When you play it, it will feel reminiscent of "ESC from Lv-426" by ManRayX. The tower is similar in size but it feels more perilous, like you can fall off and die at any moment. The tower framework will be similar too but advancing up the tower is different. You use very narrow walkways for the outside or inside of the tower. the other part of advancement is "Cells" which are just Y tube pieces connected by other tube pieces. the top of the tower is also very similar to ESC, with the only major difference being the two large pieces of wood up there are now the only available play areas once you reach it. 2. A small map in the skybubble that is encompassed inside walls. The concept is also a tower however this time you are strictly inside it. The Walls will be made up of all the wall pieces or if they are needed then blocks are used, but the feel of the map should be that the tower is old, decrepit, and falling apart. This map is meant strictly for Team doubles. The play area inside of the tower is mostly on 1 level unless the forger wants to add maybe a little spot that has a power weapon. The other part of this is perception. When someone is playing this map from inside the tower they get the feeling that the tower is bigger than what they actually see. --- alright well I just saw your post after I made mine. Where can I download sketchup, or if you can't say, could you at least point me in the right direction? --- Bumping to get others to see this thread
