    Avatar
    the Blind Side
    An Education
    District 9
    The Hurt Locker
    inglourius Basterds
    Precious
    a serious man.
    Up
    up in the air

Who I want to win? The Hurt Locker. I actually felt my heart pounding for a movie. It shows the reality of the Iraq war with tensions rising and many breakdowns. Plus it was original to go with the EOD unit, something I haven't seen.

But avatar will probably win though because of the 3d.

What do you guys think should win or want to win?

I've seen everything on this year's list except Precious, and I've got to say I'm torn between rooting for Up in the Air, The Hurt Locker, and A Serious Man to win it. Who do I think will actually win? Avatar. Or maybe The Hurt Locker. None of the others realistically seem to have a chance at it.

James Cameron is going to win Director, and either A Serious Man or Inglorious Basterds should win for original screenplay.

I would like to see either Inglorious or Precious win; just because they weren't big hits.

i could see avatar win, because of it's enormous success at the box office, as well as it's simple just "badass-ness", but i'd like to see inglourious basterds or the blind side win it, 2 epic movies in my eyes.

How was the Hurt Locker horrible? Because the hero doesn't win every battle? Because it doesn't have a fairytale ending? Because it doesn't paint the Iraqis as strictly evil? It was a great movie with complex characters, great performances, and adrenaline pumping tension throughout.

Avatar was average in acting, below average in writing, and it had little emotional impact. It was certainly a one of a kind experience seeing it in 3D, but measured by any standard other than visual effects it is the very definition of cliche. Well done cliche, but cliche nonetheless. Inglorious Basterds, District 9, and the Hurt Locker were all better overall.

I need to watch the Hurt Locker again because I do not remember it as being a good movie. I must have been in the wrong mood while watching the movie. That, or everyone else is insane. Based on my last viewing of it, I would have picked any other movie over it.

The Hurt Locker was terrible, if it had a simple plot line it would've been fantastic. All it was was some guys dissarming bombs with 38 days left until disscharge. One guy gets shot, they go home, they miss it, they go back. The only thing I'll give it is that it is intense and realistic.

Avatar was the best sci-fi movie since Star Wars. The graphics where off the wall (not to mention 3D), the plot line was the best, most emotionally intense as well as actiony and suspenseful movie of it's time. By the end you wished you where Na'vi and wanted to kill yourself for being human, and that's hard to accomplish.

I thought neither Avatar nor hurt locker were oscar worthy tbh. Avatar was amazing visually but the same old story with sub-standard plot and acting, hurt locker, in my eyes, was directionless and nothing extraordinary.

It was a travesty that a prophet didn't win the best forgein film.

I didn't see Hurt Locker, so I can't speak about that.

But I can say that after seeing Avatar, I left the movie impressed by the special effects and the 3D, and nothing else. The plot was shaky, there was little to no suspense at all, and I didn't feel an emotional connection at all. I did not want to be the Na'vi nor kill myself being a human. I just left amazed by the CGI and 3D-ness. But that's not Oscar worthy.

Personally, I think District 9 should have won. It was (in my opinion) emotional and had better characters than Avatar, and also had much better acting. Sharlto Copley delivered an amazing performance as Wikus in his first major role. I went from siding with him to hating him and then cheering him on numerous times throughout the movie, something I didn't find myself doing while watching Avatar.

District 9 was just an all around enjoyable movie, and in my opinion better than Avatar. The plot was filled with suspense, action and humor throughout, and after watching it I felt like it wasn't lacking in any areas, something I can't say about Avatar.
